In case you dont know this is illegal in the city lakes. Maybe you can point to the specific TPWD regulation that states that it's illegal to catch baitfish in city lakes?? I'm not aware of any reg like that and there is no exception for the use of castnets for bait listed in the Freshwater Harvest Regulations. What am I missing? Community Fishing Lakes (except reservoirs totally within state parks) For channel and blue catfish, no minimum length. Daily bag=5 in any combination. Fishing is by pole and line only. Anglers may use no more than two poles while fishing. Fishing is by pole and line only for community ponds under the "Exceptions to Statewide Freshwater Harvest Regulations".

Thanks, this is the info I was looking for. According to that link these regulations apply to Neighborhood Fishin' lakes. Would you know if these regulations apply to all Community Fishing lakes or only those designated as Neighborhood Fishin' lakes? Thank you for your help with these questions, the TPWD website makes things as clear as mud for me. I appreciate everyone's help.

I'd assume that any lake or pond not on the list would run by their own set of rules, you'd have to call a warden for the final word on that one.

"If the lake is less than 75 acres or within a public park, it is most likely a Community Fishing Lake"
The spirit of the law applies to all lakes <75 acres or within a public park. Even though it may not be listed specifically, personally I would not mess with the law. If someone reports you and you get a ticket, you could fight it but why the trouble?

FYI - if you look on the back of your fishing license, there is a toll free number. License?

Thanks for everyone's help. I agree with you Woolybugger, it's not worth the hassle. I've seen so many people do it and it got me wondering if it was even legal which started me on this search and how I found this forum.

I see people throwing castnets at White Rock, is it illegal there? As long as they are only keeping baitfish, and not keeping game fish, it's legal. White Rock Lake is not considered a Community lake or whatever, cause it's a full sized ( Albeit small ) lake. At least, I believe that's the way it is lol.

How well does the every two week trout stocking work at Mesquite? Are they only stocking a couple hundred fish at a time?
