Going to Choke next week and try to catch a few eaten size catfish, can anyone help? This will be my fist time to try and catfish on a lake.

Most people are catching them around the brush islands in about 20' of water, just fish tight to the brush, and use a good stink or dip bait, some chum might help too.

Txvaquero, lots of brush. I usually use a slip bobber and fish in no more than 8 feet deep water. Usually most of my fish come in less than 4 feet. Work the edges and cast up near the brush. I also use floating, yellow Tuf Line so I can see it enough to move it away from the brush.

Peeled shrimp is my favorite, but RedChevy is right about punch bait. Bring a mesh fish basket and put in a bunch of 20% range cubes. Hang it off at mid depth and shake once in a while. Lots of that powdered chum will attract bait fish and kitties and they will not fill up on it.

Good luck... I have several pics on Page 1 (before gasoline prices climbed) of Choke trips.

The best Punchbait we have used is CJ crawfish punchbait only available at Fishermans Corner
