hey guys i have been posting hear about what rod i should get for catchin those trophy cats. almost everyone has suggested the ugly stick catfish rod. its a nice rod but i want something not as fat and bulky. i mean that is good if u gunna be catchin 40+ lb fish every fish but i wont be doin that. usually we catch about 5-10 lb fish with some of the huge ones mixed in. and i do go after the eatin sized ones more often. dont get me wrong we would love to catch those monsters everytime but i just doesnt happen. so i was wantin to know if anyone knows of a rod thats 8ft long but is not as bulky as the ugly stick. somthing skinnyer that will still let me fight the fish not as huge but will still hold up with th biggens. does anybody have any suggestions? please let me know. thanks.

I use the Danny King signature rod. It is a 7'MH rod that will hold the biguns. I have landed bunches of 20's, 30, 40's and one over 50 pounds with these rods without any problems.

The ugly stick line used to have more than that. I bought one about 5 or so years ago that is medium/heavy or just medium and its 7 foot long. Works great for almost all the fishing I do with 10lb test on it. I even use it in the bays. I love the ugly stick line because you arent going to break them. My buddy even bought an ugly stick ultralight rod.

The Ugly stick catfish rods are huge, but i would still use an ugly stick just get a smaller one. It needs to be at least 6'6" or 7' to get that big fish moving. They last for years and as you know they never break. This rod is good if you are wanting to buy a catfish rod but any rod will do just fine as long as it has some back bone and some length.hope this helps and god bless

Hey Rednecksooner! I use the Basspro IM6 graphite telescoping rod. 7'6" Heavy 12-30lb line 3/4 - 2 oz. weight. Its kinda like a "flippin stick". Cork handle and Fuji guides telescopes down to about 6' for easy storage. Regular price 29.99 but they have been on sale twice this spring for 19.99. Helluva deal in my book. I have 8 of them!!!

Look in the saltwater section at your fav store. They have many light salt rods that are great for larger freshwater fish!
I feel more like I do now than I did when I first got here!
