The title says it all. Had some good ole fashioned foot surgery in late Oct and after a lot of pain and rest my foot was ok until week 3 then the main cut wanted to stay open and got somewhat infected. This was even after taking really strong antibotics (cipro) from day 1. So we are cleaning and healing no big deal that is expected then about 2 1/2 weeks ago got something on my waistline that looked like a bug bite a bit itchy/red but painful so I press on. Then it just kept getting bigger, red/purple and hot still pressed on, by day 3 started to get aches and fever thought maybe my flu shot? On Sunday (colts/pats games) go to the ER thinking I would get some skin cream on something. HA was I ever wrong good old STAPH INFECTION. I get some numbing meds and they go ahead and make a small but deep cut and send me home. I check in with the surgry center both mon and tues. It gets worse on tuesday and the doctor says we need to operate NOW! I was at least smrt and had some vacadine on me. After A LOT of numbing meds as well they go ahead and do there thing for about 30 minuties and its the weirdest feeling ever but they finish and I have a nice 3" long by 2 1/2" wide hole in smomach that is one 1" deep. NICE two days before thanksgiving. They were able to spare me from spending a week in the hospital. But now just about patched up foot is fairly strong and the wound is closing by the hour. It the weather holds up should be able to drop the boat in the water this weekend. I did have three things going for me strong family, youth (28) and in over great shape. Lets hope for some fishes this weekend.

Sorry to hear about that. Like you said, the good part is the worst of it is behind you. Fingers crossed. I had a staph infection in my elbow and ended up in the hospital for six days. That thing oozed for days after they cut it and had a 104 temp at one point. Good luck getting back on your feet, no pun intended.

I feel for you. Got home from fishing a tournament before thanksgiving, had chest pains. End up in hospital for observation and end up with a cath the next day. Everything looked good for the heart, but while they were doing the cath, they found out the main artery in my right leg was 100% blocked. Scheduled surgery the next Monday and all is good except can't go fishing. Just sitting at home resting. Hope all goes well with you. fish

Feel your pain. Boat ready for after Thanksgiving fishing and excited about it.. Was asked to play in a flag Football game challenge against another Air Force squadron. Catch a pass in the second half and felt like someone kicked me. Go to the ER, followed by Orthopedics and the found out I ruptured my Achilles. Happened on a Friday, Surgery the day before Thanksgiving and just got a special boot put on today. But still no fishing for a while. Told the wife that when I get better I'm going to hire a guide at Falcon. Did not go over well with her at all. Get better guys and tight lines will be back before we know it.

Ouch I heard that is one of the most painful injuries to ever get. Good luck with recovering. Are you stationed at Lackland or Randolph?

Lackland. I guess I am one of the lucky guys. It has been relatively pain free. Just jacked up since it is my right foot.
Hope you continue to recover well ssj3gotten

MRSA can be tough to deal with - do not wait to treat a staph infection.

God managed to heal my left leg this summer after I contracted MRSA. I'm very fortunate to still have my left leg and my life.

Resistant staph (MRSA) is not something to put off going to the doctor.

I had no clue is MRSA until it was doing its thing but I am doing much better now. I was able to get on the water on Saturday, mild but very windy which is not my style but managed one grass pickeral and lost a nice 1 1/2 lb bass (good sized for mississippi fishing) the lake we went to is being lowered so never a good thing. Mepps comet minnow was the only thing working.

When I found out what I had this summer, I was greatly concerned. I work as a teacher in science at TCC and many of my students work in hospitals - I'm exposed to it daily. A collegue of mine has had it TWICE.

By the way, start eating yogurt or taking probiotics. You will need to restore the health bacteria to your stomach/GI track.

Take care and I'm glad you're on the water!

Blueheron sorta funny thing with bacteria and stomach. I ended up sick on Thursday and when to the clinic and there was concern it was a side effect to taking Cipro and Batrim for over a month. It at least was just a 24 hour bug and/or going back to a full day of work too soon. All seems well at this point as my body feels pretty strong.
