Fishing with kids can be rough. Personally, I don't think trout fishing is appropriate for little ones, despite how it is being advertised. The problem is the bites are few and far between, a couple hours with no bites and they will be so bored they'd never want to go fishing again. I typically take them in the summer for perch fishing where you land one every minute with every cast - much more fun for the young uns.

I took all the kiddos out to love park yesterday, we didn't catch chit because they were giving me fits. The two oldest ones mysteriously "forgot" how to use there spinning rods and were frought w/ tangles. They 7 year olds wouldn't keep their hooks in the water and I barely got time to help our 3 year old fish at all much less do any fishing myself. Then after 30 years of fishing and having never hooked myself I sunk a 14 treble hook all the way to the shank in my thumb and I decided it was time to go. LOL. I feel for you...I had almost the same exact experience with my 4 year old. He casts a SPINCASTING rod like a champ so I decided to move him up to a spinning reel for this trout season. Not the best of ideas. Constant looped lines, tangles and fits. I too buried a treble hook in my finger and called it a day. Lol gotta love it when they catch a fish and there whole face lights up though...makes it ALL worth it!!

I am taking both the grandkids out this thursday to bethany for trout. They are 5 and 7 and love to fish. If all else fails we can walk to the other ponds and catch sunfish. Last time we went out they fished for almost 12 hours, they wore me out, caught a fish every 30 or 40 minutes and didn't want to leave.

The two that had issues w/ thier spinning reels... i dunno what got into them. These two have been fishing all their lives. They go kayak fishing w/ me in the summer. Will fish all day long, catch fish, and never have a problem. They were just eat up w/ problems yesterday tho. Maybe it was the cold weather. The 7 year olds were just a little two rambuctious for fishing. No big deal really. They just put there rods down and played. One of those 7 year olds helped me clean up on crappie couple of weeks ago but today he just wasn't about it. I wanted to spend some more time w/ the three year old and get her a fish as it would be her first but I spent all my time fixing tangles for the 11 and 9 year old. Just one of those days I guess. . . Most of the time they are all great fishing partners.

Any day on/near the water with them are good days. From what I have learned with the two grandsons, they decide when they want to fish. I just try to help them come to that conclusion

Most of them will be small, but I think they retire some from the previous year or so. I caught a large one last year at S.Farms, had to be around 2 lbs.

Anyone fishing out at Lakeside City Park in Duncanville? Since I blew out the motor on my boat Thanksgiving week, I found the trout stocking schedule by accident. So I have been going out there almost every day and having a blast. I have only caught 1 trout, but I enjoy hanging with the ghetto folks. I have seen a few folks catching them like crazy.

BUT!!!! Nothing like a fight with a trout if you can put them on the fish
