Just wondering what the heck some people are thinking when they run around bridges. I fished the big bridge on Palestine Friday and Saturday. Friday there was a guy fishing the bridge that would go from one end to the other at different times. He would crank up, run 50mph down the bridge. At the last minute it was like he thought he found the perfect set of pilings and he would slam the throttle back and J-Hook to them, sending a wake about 4ft high under the bridge. Then you have the guys that are just passing threw and they get to the bridge, throttle back and sink the back of the boat down in the water and make one of those tug boat wakes as they come under the bridge. I shouldn't let it bother me because I know its gonna happen when I fish the bridge. Its just part of it I guess. But, I just don't understand what they are thinking. When you do this to another boat and you see your wake make their trolling motor come out of the water, take that as a sign that maybe you need to re think your boat driving skills. A couple buddy's of mine were fishing the bridge last year and a guy came by with one of those tug boat wakes and one my buds lost his balance and fell out. If your making a wake big enough to rock a 21ft bass boat that bad you need to slow way down. I don't have a $50,000 rig at all, but I still don't want it slammed into the concrete pilings, and I sure don't want to fall out. Just keep in mind that there are people fishing the bridge that are older and may not have very good balance at all, and you are taking a huge chance on knocking someone out of the boat and they may not be able to get back in. They could fall out and hit their head on the boat or concrete and drown before anybody could get to them. OK Im done.

I would rather they run under the bridge at WOT on pad than do the tug wake chit like Bluetick referred too. Oh well, ya can't fix STUPID!

Most people who fish are pretty good folks. I think it's ignorance. They are only looking ahead and focusing on what to fish and the fastest way to get there. They dont have a clue as to what their wake is doing. OK, I'll admit there are some who do and just dont care. I thought I was the only one out there getting upset about it- guess I was wrong.

Okay, so school me. I'm new to boating. (Actually, I haven't even had it in the water yet) What can I do to keep my wake as small as possible? Keep in mind, I'll be in a 14' flatbottom w/ a 20 horse motor, so going by at 60 isn't an option.
