I just started buying the curado's and have what might be a stupid question but i'm wondering what is the best way to set up the brakes on the curado for best casting?
Every other brake out, all out.

Different strokes for different folks! I have NONE of the brakes engaged on my Curado. On the rare occassions I feel I need to engage some; it is never more than two. Any more than that and you'll get very little distance with your casts.

If I were you, I'd start with about half of them engaged and then lessen the number as you get accustomed to the reel.

I'm like C. I've been tossing Curadoes for over a dozen years now and typically run only two opposing brakes. But, often I shut them all off. Depending on what I'm tossing and how windy it is.

Start out with every other one, then work your way down to 2, then so forth. I usually keep 2 set on my super-free, and get PLENTY of distance. The normal curados take some getting used to, but I don't have any of my weights set on it.

Thanks guys, been using Abu's for years and did not have to mess with the setting thing.

What?? In just eight hours you done chickened out Ray? laugh laugh

No big deal, try three out to begin with and walk it down. It doesn't take any time to modify the brakes in the field.

But, remember your Abu only had two at the most. Either a big set, or a small set, but two was all the centrifuge braking you had on a 5000 for example.

Just make sure you have your spool tensioned properly just like you would with an Abu.

Randy, I think that question is applicable for most any baitcasting reel. First thing I am going to do is pay attention that when I cast, on my follow through my handles are pointing straight up. This typically stabilizes any overrun.

But, if due to casting distance, lure weight, and wind direction I'm still having some problems, I'll drop a thumb on the spool the moment the lure touches the water. But, never do I let my thumb offer friction to the cast. If you are having to do this, I suspect you have your braking system in combination with what I describe above all set up wrong. Pop the side off and change your braking. It just takes a second.

Usually for example I am casting a 3/4 to 1oz. sassy shad on just as long a casts as I can make....Thus, my bait has typically run out of energy by the time it touches the water and thumbing is not needed.

But, if I'm working the shore line with a 3/8Oz Chug Bug making more precision casts, I do often drop a thumb on the spool just as the lure hits the water. Or, many times I've already passed the R&R to my left hand and lock the spool the instant the bait hits the water. Especially if the line sides are sucking that bait the instant it touches the water like a freight train leaving town, I want to be ready. laugh laugh

If a lazy old green lipped sucker mouth hog was all I was after, a thumb would be plenty of resistance. laugh laugh

I'm realy enjoying these curado's and so far i've got 2 and have 5 more to go, i've got the brakes set at every other one and it is working great, still getting the distance and smooth as silk.
I'm real impressed with the fact that i can cast these things in the wind with very little trouble.
Hello curado goodbye Abu.

I'll second on the Chronarch. Just got my first one. Just about the only thing better than my Curado's and Calcutta's IMHO.

I still enjoy my Sustain's though.
