Y'all make me sound tame, but I caught a 20# Oppaloosa trolling a baby bass colored crank bait at the dam at Fayette just yesterday! I thought it seemed pretty odd anyway :>)

out of desperation, i took a pice of bread, balled it up and soaked it with blood from my finger that the hook started flowin. Worked good too! Man, my finger was really sore by the end of the night. Used twenty-one slices of bread.

Not so much the bait used, but while drifting the river at what seemed to be a fast pace I dropped my minnow down in the water with about eight inchs of line. I was adjusting myself in the tube when wam, a 14in channel took my line.

Man, I have to wonder just exactly how drunk some of you were when you tried some of this stuff...Anyways, here's my submission: When I was A kid, my Granddad and I went trotlining with an oldtimer at Lake Proctor. When we got to the lines and started baiting them, he'd put a small perch on every other hook. He then asked me to hand him a bucket with a lid on it. I did, and he opened it to reveal peanuts that were de-hulled. I thought he was going to eat them, but he had drilled small holes in them and wedged one on a hook. I thought, "This guy has to be smoking the good stuff." Anyway, came back two hours later and pulled numbers of good cats off the line. One yellow went 80 lbs! By the way, ALL the perch were still swimming and untouched! He then explained to me that the land around Lake Proctor is silting into the lake and it is...yes...none other than peanut fields. Turns out it's a natural forage on that lake.

When I lived in PA as a teenager I asked a guy if I could fish the ponds on his land. He wasn't too keen on it and I thought he was going to say no. Then he started complaining when he saw a huge flock of grackles on his land.
I saw my opportunity. I had an old broke down hunting dog that wanted to hunt but was too old so I had gonnen in the habit of popping a grackle or three for him to fetch a few times a week. I had gone as far as to start using dead ones for decoys (Howell Dodd seems to be the only other person I have talked to who has done this).
So I told the farmer of my exploits and offered to pop grackles for him if he would let me fish.
The deal was made so I would show up with my rods and pellet guns. One pond had carp, cats and bass in it. I would throw bread to chum the carp and catch them on ultralights. So the grackles would come for the bread and I would shoot them.
HOW MUCH FUN CAN A COUNTRY BOY HAVE AT ONCE!
One day I ran out of bait and opened up a grackle like you do to clean a dove. Pulled out the heart and liver. Caught cats on both.
So Grackle Guts! I had to tell the story though because I am sure someone would of asked how the heck did you think to try that.
Anyway GOD THEY STINK but I began using it for cats often they loved it,

Huh jtex,
Never thought of it but it sounds like a cheap effective bait you can find anytime just about anywhere,

Caught a catfish once on a lead sinker.
I was about 7 and my dad threw out my pole with only a sinker so I would think I was fishing. Catfish swallowed the sinker and I reeled him in.
