My 2004 Ranger has 2 fairly deep gashes from a dock angel iron. both are about 1/8" deep. The one on the top cap is about 6" long the one just below the rub rail is about 8"long. Is this problem other than cosmetic? It is in the metalic part of the gel coat so it would probably be expensive to repair.

Last year, I had pulled up to a pier and by bow hit a nail sticking out. It popped out about a 50cent size hole and then a deep gash about 10 inches long. I was devastated. I called our Lake Fork Fiberglass guy and took it in for him to look at. He laughed and said this is nothing. He charged me $200 to repair it and it looks like new. He said I didn't have to repair it if I didn't want- it was safe to drive as is, but I couldn't bear to look at it. So he fixed it and you would never know it was there. He did a great job. If you want to send me your email, I will send you a pic of the damage so you can compare to yours. Mine was not metal flake, I'm sure that costs more.
