HOLY COW!!!!!!
I can't imagine catching a fish that big with a fly rod. I would have wanted to give up after the first two hours too.

I had a crappie do that once. It was about a pound and a half, and I only had a Penn International with a 50lb line. I gave up after a few hours.

Nothing to do with texas and nothing to
do with FRESHWATER smile smile
Just a pet peeve of mine, we do have a
saltwater section, just scroll down a bit.
If we could get that saltwater section humming
like the freshwater section, There would
be no reason to ever go to another board.
just my 2cents
good luck

Sorry Mo,
I thought about that after posting it here, then reposted it to the saltwater section. Haven't generated many comments there, though. Think maybe the saltwater contributers are too busy fishing to post to the forum.

What a GYP that they IFGA doesn't have a category for it ! If/When they add that fish will he automatically hold the record ? The way I was reading it looks like he has to start all over again.

With an 18 wt. fly rod. I have never heard of an 18 wt rod. But I guess it exists. I am not sure if you can still call this fly fishing. How can you cast with the rod that big and stiff? I suppose there is no fun casting this rod.

Hey Mo,

I for one enjoyed reading the story, I could care less if it was posted in the crappie, whites, bass or open section of this forum. He did title it "Nothing to do with Texas", Maybe next time he should add "Nothing to do with fresh water". One of my pet peeves is people who gripe about nothing, and apparently people like the thread or he would not have had the responses that this topic has gotten. Just my 2 cents worth.
