I told my 10 year orld son that we will catch fish this time, it's the flounder run for God's sake. Fished Roll Over for 3 hours on Saturday with 50 other fishermen, used carolina rigs and mud minners. Nothin not one bite. Then went to sea wolf, fished for 2 hours nothing. Not a bite. My son says can we just fish for perch near our house at least we can catch something.

try to slowly reel your mud minner across the bottom... SLOWLY... 1/2 reel turn then wait 10 seconds, then another 1/2 reel turn. should cover some ground but leave it there long enough to entice them to bite. now if i can only follow my own strategy lol.

I am sorry about your bad outing. That weekend wasnt the best time cause it was right in the middle of the cold front I believe, but I was out there also saturday morning around 8 at rollover and it was slow compared to previous weeks before when the action was very steady for flounder we did manage one flounder that morning and i lost another nice one but that was it for flounder bites, we caught two reds using mullet on carolina rig. But some people did ok on gulf side for black drum and a few slot reds using cut bait, dead shrimp and mullet fishing right next to bridge.
just my preference but mullet seems to work better for me than mud minnows i know minnows stay alive longer but never seemed to do well with em. Good luck next time im sure youll snag a few. I wish I could work my trips around the weather but with work its difficult im sure its the same for you.

Its all about timing the tides right. Watch the locals when they are fishing its time.

I think the front has something do with it more than the rest. I was there (Rollover) on Wednesday before Thanksgiving and was catching on everything I threw on nearly every cast. I kept two nice ones. I took a few guys out on the Saturday following Thanksgiving (first day of cold front) and got skunked. One guy in my group got his two but nothing else and we even through minnow, mullet and Gulp.
The only thing dumber than a fish is a fisherman.

I went on Sunday and took my daughter and we caught our limit pretty easily. We were using finger mullet for bait. I saw alot of flounder being caught on both sides.

When would be a good time to go to rollover pass this weekend? I want to fish in the day/morning time. Do you cast for your bait there, or do you have to buy mullets? I went on Sunday and took my daughter and we caught our limit pretty easily. We were using finger mullet for bait. I saw alot of flounder being caught on both sides.

Sorry to ask a silly question but where is Rollover Pass? I'll be moving soon to Matagorda County.
I don't trust a catfisherman who doesn't have shad scales on his hands or his reels...period.

There is nothing biting at Rollover Pass, so don't even waste your time. I will be there and I'll let you know when it turns back on........... yeah right. We've been killing them there. We've also been catching nice trout under the lights.

Tides, bait and presentation. 3 hours is nothing if the tide was slack.
Now, Donald...please pick John Bolton for your running mate.
