anyone ever fish Somerville? I have fished somerville alot but never really had much luck rod and reeling. In the past we have set jug lines in the main part of the lake and done well, but i really enjoy reeling those cats in.
Any suggestions or comments would grately be appretiated, thanks

I am with you on this one. I have set trotlines out and had luck but when it comes to rod and reel, not so good. I dont have a boat so I am land locked and cannot find a good hole. I have had luck on the creeks that feed it or run off but never on the main lake. I have tried several parks. Most of it has been during late spring and summer and its been so hot. Maybe it will pick up this fall with the new temp and weather.

i hope so, i would like to try drifting for big blues in the main lake when it cools off, i've caught 2 over 50 on jug lines and probably five of six over 25. This past spring me and a buddy of mine painted up some 32oz gatorade bottles, put single hooks set anywhere from 3to6ft deep, kinda like a carolina rig. We floated about 15 of them between pecan lake and Birtch creek park. caught seven nice blues 3 to 8lbs

Sounds like a blast.......
I haven't been out there since the middle of August. I will probably go in the next couple of weeks. Keep me posted on how you do and if you find a place around the bank.

do you know the way to newmans bottom comming from burton, its where the road splits three ways. if you take the road to the far right it will take you to the lake, its a small campground, you can see the rock point that jets into the water i've heard of people cathcing alot of channels there.

Last year I went catfishing off of the bank at sommerville at least once a week and almost always caught fish...some days better than others. Haven't been as much since my fishing buddy moved away, but I can tell you that the bite should start to pick up as it starts to cool off. If you can make it out there right as a cold front hits you should be able to catch fish no matter where you are at. I have had good success fishing at every campground. May head out to welch tonight...I'll let yall know what is going on.

I went to sommerville last wednesday and friday. I caught three nice(2-5lb) kitties each night on cut shad. It's starting to get good...

Found the Catfish bite to be pretty darn good yesterday. We had 19 in the boat in 2.5 hrs. Fishing in 15-20 ft of water.

Great C to the B. I guess the wind was not too bad. I know the temperature was great.
