During the holidays I spend a lot of time at the folks and stories would always come up when my dad was teaching me how to fish. What are your favorite stories from when you were learning to fish or while teaching your kids to?

My first topwater fish. On a buzzbait. 4 pounder. I was probably 6 or 7 years old. I'll never forget that bite.

Mine was at Palestine under an old bridge for crappie. We caught the motherload then came in for lunch and both my grandpa's wanted to go back out but on the way into the house/boatdock we hit a stump and ripped the transom loose. My dad wouldn't let me go and I was crying, until they gased it and that big ol Merc sank to the bottom and the boat sank. Brand new 21' Falcon Grande Bass Boat advertised as unsinkable!

I was about 3 years old at Fork, which would be in 1984 and my Dad took me out. I was using a Zebco 202 fishing a worm, well my worm got snagged on a small stick-up and I kept trying to hand it to my Dad to get it free... he just told me to keep shaking it and it will come loose and about that time a 3 1/2 lb bass took the worm off the top of the stick up and the fight was on. I have the picture... let me find it and I'll post it.

Making the step to baitcasters...I was a hardcore fisherman from the get go and I'd really put a hurtin on my cheapo's every year.Pops finally figured he'd save a lot of money by giving me one of his baitcasters. So he told me which one I could have and said "Practice with it." So I went out in the hot humid Louisiana summer heat and practiced with it all day for about a week. That was about 1978 and I haven't looked back since.

I would have to say all the memories fishing at the pond behind my dads house. I remember standing out there on a summer afternoon when I was like 10 years old and my dad put on an old artificial worm that he had laying around since like the 60's, that was the first time I caught a bass on an artificial lure. After that I spent almost all of my teens fishing at that pond with family and great friends. If it weren't for those days, fishing probably wouldn't be part of my life.

Nope, I got too lazy and didn't want to un-bury the boat from all of the junk in our garage. If you want to go fishing at Ray Hubbard one of these weekends let me know. I want to get back out on the lake.

Mine is when dad had a muskie on up in wisconsin. He couldn't get in in the boat so he pulled out his 22 to shoot the fish but missed and hit the lure. The lure split in half. The muskie swam away. I still have that 1/2 lure.

I guess mine would have to be the first time I went fishing in a bass boat. I grew up fishing a lot of little ponds and creeks by my house for bream and catfish but never really got into bass fishing hard core until about 4 or 5 years ago. My buddy was going out to lake Houston one morning and invited me along. We headed up the west for of the river into a little feeder creek and beat the bank with spinner baits. I ended up catching a 4 pounder there and several other smaller fish. Once the sun came up we went out on the south end of the lake and threw deep divers and I caught a seven pounder and 5 pounder. Probably the best day of fishing I have ever had. Had over 20# on my first time out fishing in a boat. I'd love to have another day like that!
