I will be going to Sam Rayburn Oct. 1, pitching at tent at Jackson Hill and fishing for 7-10 days. We carry so much equipment that I can only carry 10-15 gal. of soured milo. Any suggestions on the fastest way to sour the grain. Since it is not that hot then, I have used beer, yeast and syrup. Any other suggestions. I put the grain in 5 gal. buckets in black plastic bags where they get the most sun. Help?

I usually use beer. Also, and this is a stretch, if you bury it under some compost, the natural heat of the compost will heat it up very fast. Like I said, a stretch, but I just happen to have a big compost bin in my back yard for all of the flower beds.

This message may be too late for your trip. The natural fermentation process is from wild airborne yeast. To speed up the process just add packaged baking yeast or sour dough if you have some in your frig. Make sure the water and grain mix are about body temperature when you add the yeast or you can kill it. Later it will produce a lot of heat as it grows. Hope this helps.

Should have read the original post more closely, I see you already use yeast. Never mind!

I stick a couple of rangle cubes in the mix. Seems to speed up the stink.

2agdad,

the quickest way would be for you to come over to my place and pick up about 10 gallons. I'm in Duncanville too. Sorry, I did not see this post till it was too late.
