I know this thread has been here previously, but I couldn't find it. What is the best way to fish DK, sponge or naked treble hook? Under a bobber or tight line? Thanks for any help.

Definetly no sponge. Sponges are for dip bait, not punch baits.

Just keep your punch bait cool and firm.

Whether tight line or bobber depends on the structure you are fishing over, depth of water ect.

When I first used DK, I often made the mistake of putting my rod(s) in a rod holder instead of holding it (them) in my hands. I've since learned that DK is a "contact bait", which means that it's best to hold the rod so you can set the hook whenever something "feels different". Others may disagree, but that's the best advice I've found.

Smile_and_Nod, I have long been a strong advocate of what you advise.

A few exceptions being....I have a couple of e-glass live bait rods that have tips so light you can set them in a holder when verticle fishing and typically detect a bite before the kitty detects the rod.

If you are bobber fishing it obviously makes no difference.

And, it's not really necessary if you are bird roost fishing. It has been my experience they'll knock fire out of that punch bait when you're fishing the bird roosts.

But, in all other instances, I'm gonna be holding that rod very gentle like and feeling close for anything that wasn't happening a split second prior.

We have been using #6 trebles with the spring that is wrapped around the shaft of the treble.
Thoughts?
