anyone done any cat or redfishing out at calaveras lately? i'm plannin on being out there this saturday (30th) to do some drifting. i figure its not hot enough for the reds to really be at the wall, probly ahve better luck in the open water, seems like the catfish should be shallower, but i haven't fished there in quite a while. seems like i was always able to catch them deeper, but that was later in the summer. just curious to see if anyone's been, and how they got em if they got any.

It's been a little strange out there this spring. I've talked with several people who either haven't caught anything or just barely enough to bother with cleaning. Seems like maybe they are in a transition period or something. I haven't tried it myself but the people I've talked to have been relyable in the past. Also note that there isn't much going on this forum with regards to Calaveras.

Seems like there is very little activity this spring on Calaveras. I am way behind in my fishing due to the *&$#* wind. I keep my boat hooked up to my truck and I am on "ready" most of the time, but I can't see fighting 15 to 30 mile an hour winds. Went to Port A last week, same thing down there...very windy! Caught a few trout. Roger

Haven't heard any reports from Unclejess yet this year. Last year he was knocking them dead with a shoreline and rip rap bite, fishing under a cork with shad.

thanks for the reports. i used to fish calaveras a lot mainly in the summers. but i've been a lot more pinched for time last couple years. the fishin was alwasy great there, big cats and reds, we started focusing on braunig and the area rivers more though because they are cleaner. i'll be fishing a small tournament i got invited to join by a friend is why i'm goin back, we'll most likely try to release everythign after weigh in, or find someone who wants em.

I fished Calaveras Thursday AM (28th). Slow, but managed to catch a channel about 6 lbs and two good stripers. All on liver (nothing on shad or live perch). I was relly looking for a little red action, but nothing. Wind came up about 10 Am, so I called it quits. Very few people fishing and hardly any boats out. Hard to throw the old castnet without catching a bunch of pond scum. Roger

Here is the fishing report taken straight off the Texas Parks and Wildlife website. Maybe this falls under the "should have been here yesterday heading."
Water stained; 83 degrees; Black bass to 7 pounds are good on soft plastic worms and grubs around reed beds along shorelines. Striped bass to 7 pounds are good on chicken livers, shad, and spoons. Redfish to 24 pounds are good on perch and shrimp on the bottom. Catfish are excellent on nightcrawlers, shad, and liver in 10 - 20 feet

The reason you haven't heard from me is I don't have anything to report. Fishing is slow for me. The places I used to catch 15 to 18, I am now lucky to catch 3. Since they began filling the lake back, I think fishing will improve. I hope so. Jess
