Well since I have knocked a hole in my boat and sunk it this weekend what are the steps in trying to salvage my motor? Or is it? It was underwater upside down for about 2 hrs. here is what I know to do pull the plugs let the water drain and pump it full of oil and move the crank manually. Also spay the electrical leads down so they don't corrode and lastly new fuel. What am I missing?
Thanks in advance

Oh that sucks!!! I saw the pick in the bass fishing section... If that was my boat I would have almost rather the thing sink so I don't have to look at it again!!!

get it running ASAP if it sits it will rust I have had them running 30min after pulling it out but if it sits a few days you might as well add a motor to the insurance claim

in freshwater? no need to pull the powerhead. corrosion won't start until you pull it out the lake, so leave it submerged until you're ready.
if you have built in tanks, get a portable tank to use until you get the boat defueled & cleaned up.
get a battery. borrow one from your truck if you have to but you'll need new ones anyway.
first, take off the starter motor, disassemble, dry & reassemble. use compressed air, I wouldn't spray WD40 on the starter components. Somebody correct me if that's wrong. Once you can get it to spin, crank the motor spark plugs out to expel as much water as you can.
Pull the flywheel, dry the stator & other ignition components under there. Be sure you torque it to spec when you reinstall.
unplug all the electrical plugs, give 'em a shot of compressed air or WD40.
button it all back up & get 'er started. you got to idle it up to operating temp, and run it long enough to dry everything out.

Turn in insurance claim on the motor. Never be the same

Yesterday I pumped oil in the pistons and got I think all the water out and sprayed all the conections with WD. I also move the pistonstons manually and then bumped the starter and sprayed oil out the plug holes and then pumped them full again. The starter seems fine.

Well I got her running and it's not running really any worse than it did before it got wet. Non of my guages work, but it's idling about the same. It does have a wobble to it that I'm not sure it didn't have to start with. Maybe just maybe it will continue runnning for awhile. I gotta save my change I need a new hull.

Glad you got it going. I sank one a few years ago. I sprayed the whole thing down with isoproyl alcohol, took out the plugs, and poured isopropyl down through the crankcase and cylinders.
It fired right up after that and ran fine.
