Well I have about 1/3 gallon of sure shot left and its getting mighty runny. I added shreaded cotton to it and it helped out a lot but still seems to be flinging off the hook quite a bit...my question is...has anybody tried adding bacon or tripe or something like that to their hook or punch bait to hold the flavor longer and have something on the hook to keep them coming in?

I have only added cattail fuzz or shredded toilet paper. I would be concerned that the bacon would cause the bait to mold.

Very true...what if you put it on the hook then punched it just before you cast it out...and with tripe they have honeycomb tripe which I would assume if you allowed it to dry somewhat, would be good for holding the punch bait in the honeycomb parts of it...no?

Fill it with paper from a paper shredder. The paper soaks up the excess oil and helps hold it onto the hook.

catail fuz is by far the best
try casting a little lighter and let the wind
take it.

When it gets runny, what I do is put a frozen pint sized bottle of water (now ice of course) in the middle of the bait. That will firm it up enough for you to cast it. When you are done, you can discard the bottle. That keeps your bait cold without putting the whole gallon in your ice chest. I freeze several bottles of tap water, then I use the frozen bottles to keep my drinks cold, and take one every now and then from the cooler for the bait.

set it out in the sun with the top off ans stir every now and then.
It is made with Cat tail fluff that is what they use to stiffen it up.

Hooker what do you mean huh?
what I wrote is pretty self explanitory. If your punch bait is too runny set the jar out w/o lid for a day or so and let some evaporate. Won't hurt it a bit. OR use cat tail fluff to thicken it up like they do when they make the stuff.

Mark,
Just as it was written
Ever really tried to let it evaporate in the sun ?
Sorry but my HUH stands as written, not there to start an argument....
I have some in my supplies that is at least 4 years old and really cant see any evapopration of the oils.

Never seen punch bait stiffen up by being in the sun. If anything, it softens. The oils seperate from the bait, and pool. Danny King recommends cattail fuzz to stiffen the bait, but not everyone has access to cattail fuzz. Ice works well for me.
