Hello everybody,
My name is Tokkie and I am residing in South Africa but hesitantly joined your forum since our fishing conditions, target species and a host of other issues regarding angling may be different. However, after giving the idea some thought, I still believe we can trade mutual issues which may benefit our angling skills. Maybe you already have other South Africans as members to your forum, but obviously I won't know that yet.
My favorite angling discipline is rock-and-surf angling although I practise all disciplnes of saltwater angling. My favorite target species are big sharks, giant trevally and rays.

Hi tokkie i am a saffer living on the Gulf coast. Ja jong fishing in the US is not the same as down there. What the guys call Snook here is not the Snook that we know, shad is not the shad we know, all different spices. Fishing is highly regulated with bag limits and seasons. The only thing the same is the fisherman, it seems they are the same species the world over. Fishing from a pier or surf and dare to catch a decent fish you will have people climbing all over you to cast to the same spot you just pulled the fish from. Man how I long for a SA Snook or Galjoen on the barbie.

Hi bollie, I can only imagine how different fishing could be over there. In 4 weeks time I am leaving for 3 week trip to the Cape starting at Mossel Bay and ending up in Cape Town. I can't wait, let me tell you. The bronzies are running thick in False Bay but I will be targeting edibles as well. Main edible target species being kob. I know how you feel, can't wait to buy a fresh snoek in Hout Bay and grilling it on coals that same day. It was great to hear from you and we must keep in touch.

welcome to the board Tokkie, do you get chances to go out on a boat and target Tuna? looks like you have some nice deep water close off shore.

Thanx TX Grizzly. Personally I haven't fish for tuna offshore but the best tuna fishing grounds are just south of False Bay and Cape Town and the average yellowfin tuna weighs about 55kg. There are commercial boats operating out of Gordons Bay which will gladly take you to these areas at a fee. I am not quite sure how much but I estimate it to be in the vicinity of $150-$200 per day. When going out with these guys, you have a better than average chance to return with a Yellow Fin which could be your personal best. I hope this answers your question.
