Hey guys I just purchased a Lowrance HDS 5 and now BPS is going to have a sale on the HB 788ci during thanksgiving. I was thinking about taking the HDS 5 back and getting the HB. Is there any reason that I should keep the HDS 5 over the HB?

Yes, you can add the LSS-1 for Structure Scan.
The 788 can never be a Side Imaging unit.

Philbones, do you have an Iphone or IPOD? If so, definately keep the HDS. Plus, that screen is more clear on regular 2D sonar then any other competitor or brand. The structure scan will blow your mind and you will see how easy and user friendly all of the connecting will be to hook it up. You can also back track on your sonar and mark waypoints that you forgot to mark on brush piles or rock piles and it keeps recording! Humminbird stops recording once you start back tracking and you start to lose all the data you are currently going over.

philbones, jason said what i was going to say. The Sonic Hub is awesome if you have an ipod or iphone. All of your music on your phone can be played, it comes with speakers and hooks up so easy to your unit. It has a dock for your phone with a little door to keep your phone dry. These things are awesome. When did you buy your HDS-5?

if you bought the unit after 7/26/10, you can get a 50$ rebate from Lowrance on that HDS-5. They started that rebate promotion on that date and it runs until January of 2011. I am pretty sure of this. You could call or sent a PM to Jason to make sure, but i think you are good.
