I have been catching alot of crappie up shallow at Grapevine since early March. Well starting friday I have caught some nice 2-3 lb channels in the same spots about a foot deep around bank fishing jigs.
What should I try to actually target the cats that are in the area?? Think punchbait or frozen shad would do the trick??

I know that shad have been working well on Lavon in the shallows. I cant see why it would not work there too!

ALLANGT,
Generally Shad always work.
But, to be safe I also carry Sure Shot (If you want the channels)

On RayBob over here, when the kitties are on this pattern....Which is right now....I can carry a bucket of range cubes, salt the bank every 50-100 feet....Then carry my lawn chair and bucket of punch bait back to the first spot I salted with the cubes.....I fish each spot until the kitties slow down, then I move to the next spot.....Generally by the time I get to about the third or forth spot I salted with the cubes, I have a limit of nice fork tails. It should work on any lake in north Texas. I look for a shallow bank that has stick ups out in the water.

Generally the kitties are so shallow when you set the hook they'll come completely out of the water like a green lipped sucker mouth fish. smile

Well Monday I finally took my sureshot with me. The crappie bit had slowed my around 11 so I decided to break out the stinky stuff. First off I threw a couple chunks of it in the water. The little cove/gravel pit area was only 4 ft deep. Only took about five minutes to catch the first channel. Nice 15 inch fish. After 3 hours we ended up with 7 fish. Threw some smalls back. Next time we go I need to get some range cubes to bait the area better.
