Has any one used rio grande perch? They looked similar to a tilipia but are really effective crushed or whole? Only downside to my expierence is long wait times, generally bigger fish prefer them. Any comments or similar results? They are really great on drop lines!WHOOO eee!

I have done a lot of fishing with rio grande's and like then a lot. they are not as feisty on the line or as flashy as shad or as green sunfish, but i have had them stay alive on trotlines for nearly a week even after smaller fish and gar have nibbled on them. I do a lot of catfishing on choke canyon with them, and use then whenever i can find them.

Those Rio Grande really do stay alive the longest. I've had them in one of my bait ponds for year.. fisherman prefer them over perch or goldfish..... www.canyonlakefishing.com

hey, sorry it took me forever to respond, i had forgotten than i had responded to this topic. but yeah i'm from Cibolo, which is just a little farther down I-35 towards san antonio from new braunsfels. you've probly heard of it. i do a lotta fishin on bruanig and calaveras, mostly calaveras. had some awesome luck out there this summer on the reds and the catfish. also fish choke canyon and whitney as often as i can. i've got a spot to launch on the guadalupe that i've been wantin to fish, but haven't gotten a chance to do it yet. hopefully this summer it'll work out.
good fishin to ya

Hey erich , Ya the guadlupe is decent over here by san antonio, however it only gets better if ya go down south. Not real far just towards seguin on co. rd 1117. Excellent fishing. Only problem is it can get shallow, causing for a few drags with the boat. i LIVE ON LAKE DUNLAP over here in new braunfelsand it is good fishing now and good in the summer but the god forsaken skiers and kids in daddy's boat blow me out of the water in my litlle 16 ft flatbtm. I netted some decent blues but the best is down past lake mcquenny. I promise! Mcquenny is decent near the spillway/dam at night. Anyways, good fishing to ya and hope to c ya out there!! Big country n.b.
