i was plannin on baiting a few holes for cats out on a lake up here in oklahoma near campus. i was gunna go out and throw range cubes in a few spots that might hold cats. i planned on doing this a couple nights during the week then do it again on the day of a weekend i wanted to fish then fish the holes. do u guys think this will bring the cats to the places i bait? also how long on the day that i fish should i wait after i threw out the range cubes to fish? how long should i go with out catching a fish before i move to the next spot cuz u never know there might just not be any in the area? let me know what u guys think. thanks

Generally when I use range cubes (carp fishing) it takes about an hour or so before the kitties come rolling in. I tend to catch more of them than carp, so I would say wait around an hour at each spot and if you don't see or have any activity then try another.

I would suggest throwing some cubes in all the holes you plan to fish before you start fishing for the day, then when you move just throw out another couple of handfuls. This seems to work well for me.

Tell you what I've first hand witnessed in the past. I've baited holes with sour grain in tow sacks the day before. Then come in and salted them with cubes just as I started fishing.

The bite would be almost immediate. Sometimes before the bait hit the bottom of the lake.

But, the interesting part to watch is. As the bite began to tapper off, I'd start broadcasting cubes across the water and you could almost watch the speed of the bite pick-up like stepping on the gas peddle of a car.

I'll not wait an hour on any fishing hole. Even if this means I miss out. This is why I chum multiple holes at a time. The bite needs to be almost immediate, or you likely aren't gonna have a good catch. Get up and move.

But, that is just my opinion.

RNS, I don't know why what you want to try won't work. Just understand that cubes broadcast in an area: #1 dissolve rapidly. #2 gets gobbled up even quicker. So don't be bashful about the quantity, or the frequency of application.

I don't think cubes are a good long term investment in a fishing hole. They are a quick fire the bite up solution IMHO. wink

I don't think cubes will bring many fish into an area they wouldn't otherwise travel, so find a place that would normally hold a few fish already. Also, like Mike said, they disolve really fast (5 minutes) so don't be shy with them. Also, don't be surprised if they don't do anything for you. Try the holes without chum to see if you can catch anything first. Also, I have never really had a big fish bite around chum, but it happens. Generally it's the smaller fish.
