I have been on his boat and it also seems to plane out easier if one of us sits in the bow of the boat while we take off.

does the prop blow out when takin off, you got to back off the throttle some so it gets a grip again?

Another possibility is that your not getting full throttle. I have seen the older controls wear out. First sign of control problems is that the fast idle does`nt increase rpms very much. I think this boat should be running in the low 50`s. Pull the air box and check the butterflys for full open.

the prop is too small is my best guess. try a 24 or a 23 and see if that does it.

It has 14.5 by 22 prop on it If the boat has a stainless prop on it, the 14.5 x 22 should be the ideal prop for that boat. The shorter the pitch (22 is shorter than 24), the faster the boat should get on plane. You should be sacrificing top speed with a shorter pitch prop, not hole shot. I'm thinking its a different issue. Does the boat have a jack plate on it? You might want to lower that motor if you are absolutely positive that you are trimmed all the way down.

No Jack plate , sometimes it bogs down when taking off but it hasn't done the last two time out. Oh also when I trim the motor down all the way when idling it will die 50% of the time.

I suspect it is a motor height issue. You might also want to looks at weight distribution. Tank under seat or behind seat? Does it get up on plane better with a small amount of gas in it as opposed to a full tank? What is the condition of the prop? Is it a Raker? I really believe a 22" Raker is almost perfect for that hull and motor. You might also want to talk to Steve and Steve's Custom Props for a little set up advice: www.stevescustomprops.com
