Hi Guys,

Has anyone been catching anything at Lake Limestone? I am picking up my new boat next Saturday the 20th banana and am planning on heading up to Limestone around the 24th depending on the weather. I have never fished limestone or even been on the lake before so any advise on crappie or catfish locations would be greatly appreciated. Also where can I buy minnows around there.

Thanks,

Tired and Retired. E Troop 1st. Air Cav.

Yep, it's tough being retired but someone's gota do it. Don't worry, we'll leave a couple of them in the lake for you poor guys that have to work on weekdays and fight the crowds on the weekend's rolfmao

BTW have any of used a Eagle Cuda 350 SMAP fish finder with gps? I am looking at getting one at Academy this week to mount on my new boat and would greatly apreciate any feed back from someone who has used one.

Thanks DW,

I am really looking forward to coming up there and giving it a shot. Are there a lot of stumps up there? I can't see it being much worse than Gibbsons Creek Reservoir. I was over there a couple of years ago with a friend of mine and he just about tore his boat up on the stumps.

Hi Catangler,
Thanks for the update. I will be coming in from the Jewett side, where is the boat launch over there?

Thanks,

Hi Catangler,

Take Hwy 79 towards Marquez pass Nucor bout 1 mile take a right (fm 1512) got bout 2 miles there will be a Lake Limestone sign and take a left (Fm 1469) Go bout 10 miles till you see another Lake Limestone sign and take a left this is the park road and your there

And yes theres quite of few stumps ur free and clear in the main channel to go wide open but be cautios when heading to a tree cause them stumps r hiding bout a foot underneath I usually use the trolling motor bout 50 yards from a spot seems like if u know a spot good enough a new stump sprouts up lol

Thanks again Catangler, Looked it up on google maps then xferd it to my GPS. I will be coming into Jewett on FM39 from North Zulch so it should only take me about 45 min to get there.

BTW where can I get minnows around there?

Thanks,

Retired Guy, actually Limestone is a little over 3 feet low right now so be carefull. Like others said, the main lake is clear of stumps, but be carefull over by the county ramp on the southeast side. There are 2 underwater points that go way out into the lake and are really shallow right now. A good place to give a boat guy some lower unit work. The crappie never seemed to make it very shallow this fall. You should find them in timber about 12-14 ft. There are some fish on brushpiles, but there aren't many piles on Limestone compared to a lot of other lakes. The catfishing is picking up so you should do well on them. Good Luck. After fishing this lake since the mid 80's, I retired up here about 3 years ago. It's not a bad place to be.

Thanks for the info Ben, I will be on the lookout for the stumps. Did you guys get any rain up there last night? We got about 1/2 an inch last night and 1/4 of an inch on Friday here in North Zulch.
