Is it true that it cost 30 dollars per boat and on Fridays and the week ends only from 7-4 o'clock

It is true regarding cost. However, I think most would agree that it is well worth the money... especially this time of year.
Those fish are very strong and a ton of fun.

$30 and $20 if you are a resident of Hood or Somervell Countys. I live in Somervell Co. and its easy to justify the launch fees by the gas saved going anywhere else. Costs me $50-$75 just for truck diesel to go from Glen Rose to East Texas.(but I still go!)

yea as long as they are gettting people to pay that high of a fee they will keep it. THE FISHING IS TREMENDOUS and well worth it if you want to go "catching"

Don't let Squaw Creek fool you. You might spend 30 or 20 to launch, maybe another 30 to 50 bucks in fuel to get there and back. But the real expensive part is all the baits that get destroyed by the fish! So it has to be the best/most expensive launch I know of.

Geez, I had no idea it was that high. Never been there. I don't mind the $2-$3 fees at some lakes, but I won't even pay the $10-$15 fees to launch at certain private ramps on Ray Hubbard. There ought to be some sort of fish guarantee if they're charging that much. But hey, if they can get it, then more power to them.

Do they still have the lottery system in place? I am bringing the boat to TX when I go new years and I would love to come back to squaw creek.

There is a reason that there is a high fee at Squaw. There is a hazard, although low that has to be reckoned with. The nuclear plant requires that for security and safety that they know the who and how many are out on the lake as well as having to have a plan in place to vacate if an emergency arises. The lake can still be closed and the reason for all the paid personnel goes away. There are at least 10 and probably more who work there on the open days so you have to pay them. This was done at the request of the fishing community so as long as we can keep our end up its just another cost.
Lets see, for me: From the middle of the metromess the cost of driving to the lake with boat in tow is around 20 dollars..........100 miles. The 30 dollars entry and the 10 dollars for lake gas. 20+30+10=60 dollars.
If I drive to Fork my fuel bill would be around 40 dollars.........220 miles. The free ramp and 20 dollars gas on the lake if not more. 40+20=60.
For me the cost is about the same to drive from the middle of the metromess and fish Squaw as to drive to Fork. Given the drive time savings (half) and the wear and tear on the vehicle the cost to Squaw is much cheaper.
The amount of fish caught as Squaw? About 100 pounds per trip so far. I'll have better and worse trips as the fish get more lure wary but say for an average this winter I hope to get 50 pounds per trip.
For me and many people on this side of the DFW area Squaw calls harder. The fishing right now is easy and just beating the bank is a proven winner and has been. Every fisherman gets to make that choice though so the fishermen will get a choice. A choice that for almost a decade we have not had.
As far as the 100 boats per day, the regular system starts after midnite on Sunday and the first 100 get in. This will become competitive soon as the area lakes get harder to fish. There are some days that have tournaments scheduled. I think those are usually going to be benefit tourneys and I'm hoping they aren't too prevalent although I fully support them.

So anyone staying up till midnight or setting their alarms for 11:55pm? I am Jonesin' after having to work this weekend. I got 30 bucks burning a hole in my wallet. Who would a thunk it? A lake reservation place is saved as a favorite on my laptop! Let the games begin!

Another way to look at it is maybe the $30.00 will help deter the crowds and help keep fishing pressure in check. Personally I have no issue with it. Split between 2 people its no big deal and its good to have a decent winter lake on this side of town. As was stated earlier I can either spend it on gas and drive out East or pay the entry at Squaw. To me I feel like heavy fishing pressure killed Graham and Worth so maybe the $30.00 will deter a little of that.
