Went to the lake last night and found bait with ease and ended up with 43 fish by 5 am. Had 25 by midnight. All fish were shallow near or on rip rap. All caught on shad. I went alone and spent the ngiht in my bot but couldn't get any sleep due to the fish dragginf off my bait clicker every time i nodded off..lol.. So around 5 with a mess of fish . I decided enough was enough and headed home. Didn't even fish the morning bite.Awesome night on the water..never had to move around much at all.. .

Man that's a nice bunch of fish Cliff. I like those all night trips expecially this time of year, (not too many bugs), and just peaceful out there. Plenty light off the power plant. I haven't done that in some time, but those trips have always been memorable.
Then the work starts. I cleaned the fish there at the cleaning station, and people would really stare when you would show up with a good mess like that!

Cliff: I haven't fished there at night in some time, so this advise may not be that accurate. Anyway this may just be a guess, but I would try along the dam, or the rip rap that leads out to the "wall" either side. Those reds will patrol up around those rocks pretty shallow hunting at night. Cats like those rocks too.
BTW this time of year you should be able to find live crawfish. I think they should be in season since it seems like about this time last year I bought some. I bought them at a little beer joint/bait shop called Leon's Ice House, on W.W. White road. It's off hwy 87, (Risby exit) inside loop 410 if your headed toward the I37 interchange coming from New Braunfels. Take the Rigsby exit off 410 to the right, you'll be headed west on Rigsby, continue on until you get to the intersection of W.W. White Rd. then turn left at that light, and Leon's is on the right just across from PeP Boys auto parts. Buy a dozen of them, and if your anchored out, have at least one rod baited up with the live crawfish hooked through the tail. It might sit for a while but look out if you hear that clicker start singing, and you better have that rod in a holder or tied down. You can keep them alive for several days if you don't use them all. Put a little water and a flat rock in a container and throw them a little food once in a while. I've kept them for future trips. You might get attached to them and start to name them! Good luck Cliff!

fish the wall right know use slip float rigs fish between 10 to 5 feet use live shad or fish one of the corners on the wall and fish the bottom with crawfish try and keep your bait in close to the bank but not to close so you don't get stuck. My buddy Ram fished the other day and caught 3 reds total weight was 45 pounds in less than a hour they are their I'll be their on the 22 and 23 I can't wait see ya.

Cliff, Great bunch of fish! You did bring back your first limit of 25 to your vehicle before you started fishing again, didn't you? Otherwise, the game warden would love to have checked you on the water. Anyone fishing that catches a limit and retains them prior to midnight (daily bag limit) must not have over that daily bag limit in their possession while they are actively fishing.
Better be safe than sorry...

Another option regarding crawdads: check (or call) your local HEB. Many carry live crawdads this time of year. Instead of paying $5 a dozen a bait shops, you can get them for $5 a pound.
Nice mess o'cats by the way.

Bream buster thanks for the head's up. I honsetly was unaware of that stipulation. I kept them in two different ice chests so that i would know but that doesn't cut it. I was aware of the 25 fish rule and that a new day had begun at midnight. Thank you and will defitnelty heed this tip. CLiff

I've seen so many people get busted on this violation and they knew nothing about it. Got to keep up on the Outdoor Annual and its regulations.
Yea, I know it's hard to leave a spot especially when they're biting like crazy.
This is one regulation I always told each class when I teach Angler Education to youth and adults.
