Usually its one ticket per violation so if you have 5 undersized fish thats a grand or more right there. Repeat offenders can get truck, boat, rods snd reels, and anything else that they can say aided in the catch of the fish taken from them.

If it ain't broke, fix it till it is.

This doesn't work, we had a 5 dollar stamp added to our license fees a couple years back that was supposed to pay for the redoing of our hatchery's and the money was redirected to the states general fund so it could be used for other things...

agree with everyone's frustrations. However, look at it from a different angle. There are 500 Wardens in the State of Texas. They cover the entire state from all three borders plus out to the Boundry Line/Demarcation Line in the Gulf.

What would you think the biggest threat to Gulf Coast fisheries is...jetty fishermen or unscrupulous shrimpers/long liners/commercial fishing vessels? And which do you think would generate the highest amount of revenue for vioaltions/seizures? And which do you think would be most likely to pay the fines?

Answer those questions and I think you'll have a piece of the puzzle. Additionally, GW's move around with seasons to lend support in other regions. Quite possibly the Galveston Co. GW's were out in the field checking for hunting violations.

Dollars and cents, folks. You deploy your VERY LIMITED resources to locales they can make the largest impact, both in wildlife protection and law enforcement.

Coincidence is His way of remaining anonymous.

Commercial fisherman really screw things up if they arent thinking about what they are doing. Ive seen many boats pull in and unload entire schools of game fish. The methods that most boats use make it impossible not to catch the beauties. But that should be something the industry itself needs to fix. There are more efficient and less harmful ways to catch dinner than simply trolling the bottom with a net and catching everything that happens to be around the ship.

I dont see why Game Wardens are the only people that can issue tickets for fishing/hunting violations. The Dike, for example, could be wiped entirely of poachers if all those Texas City cops could do something about it. Same with the Jettys and SLP.

i for one have seen the game wardens many times. i have also called the game warden when i see violations but only after letting the offender know in a nice way that if they get caught with a certain fish that they could face a big fine. just in case they are not aware of the offense. some times toursits will catch something and not know. i try to give them the benefit of the doubt but if they still do it after i have said something i do call

Amen to that.
At any of my favorite bank/pier/surf fishing spots, I make it a point to pick up at least 3 pieces of someone else's trash....no matter how rushed I am when leaving. It only takes 10 seconds.

No, it isnt fun ( I usually wear gloves)...but if we dont do it...who will?

Now, Donald...please pick John Bolton for your running mate.

Maybe its just me....being a biologist, but I have never not had a warden show up when I call, even if they have no idea of who I am. Like a poster above, I see something, I say something. If no mind is payed to what I say, I call the warden.

Did so in Corpus at Red Dot, the (I'm no racist, just calling it like it was) Asian guys that had a cooler full of undersized fish got so many tickets the warden had to get another book out.

Saw duck hunters toss trash in the marsh, in a pristine area with no trash, unlike the bayou. Called the warden, they got busted at the ramp.

Found long lines where they should not be, called the warden, long liner got busted and actually taken off the bay for too many violations.

And many more. I can think of no more thankless or dangerous job and am darn glad somebody does it. Also am glad to be "eyes and ears" for them out there.

Wow, are you misinformed and probably should talk with each graduating class...you know very little information. Unless you can document facts, don't assume.

Ok what I can tell you is the Gamewardens wont write tickets to illegal aliens becuase they wont pay them and it fills up the court docket then goes to warrent that will never be called on.. Call me a liar and I will drop at least 5 gamewardens names that have told me this..They, take their fishing tackle but that is about it. Two hours later they are back with a empty beer can/ and line ,,,killing every 10-14inch trout they get. That [censored] drives me nuts..

Yes there are. they have three boats parked at the A&M campus and another boat that runs in the channel all the time. Ever since the Flounder run started i have seen a lot more activity from the game wardens patrolling on the A&M campus and down at Seawolf. They are writing tickets and busting people. The most common violation i have seen where people get tickets is for a fish that is to small or when someone has to many fish. I had a buddy who had his fish confiscated for not having a license.

So yea they are out there man.

That may happen where you are but not everywhere. Around here they go to jail, see the judge in the morning, pay their fine, then are released. The jails in your area probably won't take Class C's. Here in Mayberry if you are fishing, no license, no ID. You get a trip to town if you can't be ID'ed.

For absolute certain if you have a violation in Orange or Jefferson Co. and can't produce or prove some sort of state ID, you go directly to jail. And there are only 6 game wardens in Galveston Co. I'm sure it's tough to catch them all.
