Have any of you ever been robbed/ mugged/ assualted etc. while fishing?
One time I was scouting fishing holes in a urban pond in a "rougher" part of town and it got dark on me quick. I'm heading to leave and suddenly I hear someone step out of the woods about 60 ft in front of me. He was walking toward me back toward nothing...the parking lot, street etc was all behind him. He had no fishing gear and didn't seem like the type to go skip rocks and contemplate the universe. It freaked me out enough to draw my conceal carry and I made sure he knew it. He turned around went back to the woods quick and I left just as quick.
Just think about things and be alert out there everyone. We are fairly vulnerable as sportsman and women out in wooded areas w/ alot of distractions around.

I have on the banks of many a creek at night and I always carried a gun with me. Never had a problem but the feel of some cold steel in my hand is very comforting. Fished a many urban ponds with no problems at all.

I don't beleive I'd be fishing there if the neighborhood is so rough that it makes you assume someone walking down the path is a mugger. I'm not saying you were wrong. Your insticts were probably right on. I just don't think I'd fish there. I Haven't found a fishing hole yet that was worth getting mugged, or worse.

There are quite a few weirdos that hang out around the ramp at lake Dunlap. I have felt uncomfortable there a couple of times, but have never been threatened.

There are some shady people that hang around the Kemah/Seabrook bridge area. Was there a couple weeks ago, setting up a couple poles to sit on the bottom, when an older hispanic man comes up to me and asks if I have a lighter. I hand him mine and he walks a couple feet away AND LIGHTS A [censored] CRACK PIPE. I got my lighter back from the 50yr old crack head, packed up my stuff, and went to find a new spot. Never been robbed/assaulted though

I once had pirates approach my boat on Cedar Creek. I turned aft and fired a warning shot into their main sail with my 6lb cannon and they tightened the jib and sailed away.

Short ansewer; never!

No, but panhandled by some sorry sacks of shoot at the Lake Worth boat ramp underneath the highway, had I not handled it the way I did it may have been a mugging for sure.

i actually have had a gun pulled on me while night fishing but lucky for me i had my carry on my hip. Needless to say i still shudder at that memory even though i got off ok and that guy went to jail. Guys truly be safe out there and if you don't have a CHL i strongly advice u to get one

Arrrgh matey.

The incident I spoke of happened in the Beaumont area (don't remember the name of the water body). I assumed he was up to no good cuz I was on a little peninsula thing and would have had nowhere to go. I would have never walked out there knowing someone was there cuz I would expect them to assume the same thing. It's one of those places that you feel ok being there in the day cuz there are plenty of people around but after dark, different story. I got delayed and ended up getting there right at dusk. Was sorta a dumb decision I guess.

By handled do you mean you threw your wallet at them?

No, definatley did not go down that way, they were probably going to mug me, however they quickly changed course and faked needing some gas money once they understood where i was coming from.

Au contraire, mon ami! I quickly unholstered (I detest the term "drawed"...it sounds so..so...so JOHN WAYNE-ISH!) my Ruger SR9 18 shot stainless steel 9mm semi automatic pistol with 3 dot sights. Feeling the comfort of 6 quickly pulled rounds into a concrete piling, I noticed the would-be perpetrators eyeballing the chunks of concrete that splashed into the ramp area. thumb

With the greatest of nonchalance I ripped off 6 more rounds into a tight group of cattails, watching the partially fluffed heads explode into a cottony cloud. The panhandlers stared with eyeballs the size of dinner plates! eeks

Then in my best Clint Eastwood voice I said, "Anybody feelin' lucky today?!" shocked

I suddenly found myself alone... gentle waves tapping the willow roots being the only sound around.

GOD! I LOVE the smell of burnt Hydra Shok in the morning! Or anytime. grin
