So what is everyone's take on boat value with the original motor vs. one with a new power head. This is given the boat would be in the same condition in both scenario's.

i would think original motor would be worth more. the words new power head just scare me. there is a reason the old one went out.

if the old one is runnin good and has good compression sell it like that, you probably won't recoup the cost of a new powerhead at 3-4k

A 1979 -115 Johnson is worth $XXX.xx Does not make any difference if it has a new powerhead or not. Some people may pay a few dollars more if it has a new powerhead, but most won't. As a Boat/Motor/Trailer combo, it is worth $XXX.xx, IF it had a new power head, or new lower unit or new t-n-t or new wheelbearings or new carpet, it is still worth the exact same as if it was original......

I agree with Mike on this one. The reason is, because if I dont personally know who rebuilt it, I dont know how many corners they cut when doing so, etc. They could have just honed the cylinders and replaced the rings, without going ahead and doing the seals, bearings, wrist pins, etc. I'm a firm believer that once you have it torn down, go ahead and do it all or dont tear it down to begin with. Lots of folks just fix the obvious problem, only to leave the rest alone because they want to sell it.

I would think "Warranty" on a new power head would add to boat value.

All the new power head is selling point unless it has a warranty.

The reason I ask this question is because I have a 2007 ZX225 Skeeter that I baby. Always keep it maintenanced, run stabil, let it warm up and dont run it hard. My boat has 100 hours and the power head just lost compression. I do have a warranty and am getting a brand new power head from Yamaha and its at the dealer getting done right. Just wanted to make sure this doesn't de-value my boat since I try to keep great care of it. My boat is pretty much flawless and has never given me any problems, then all the sudden one cylinder loses compression. Maybe thats just part of owning a boat, you never know.
