When I'm fishing at Falcon Lake I'm getting better results flipping in the bushes with fluorocarbon than with braid line, but I loss more fish this way. I want to use 65 pound braid with 25 fluorocarbon leader and would like to know what is the best knot to join the 2 lines. I need a strong knot....?

I use this one. It may not be the strongest but it is easy to tie and when I get hung up the flouro always breaks and the knot stays intact.

Laredo, I know it might sound like overkill but I use a 40 lb flouro leader and it works great in those nasty bushes. A uni to uni never slips on me. Maybe the 65lb Suffix braid I use helps.

If you are going to use 25 lb as leader just use 25 floro all the way. If flip 25 floro all the time and you will break off a few. If you want to really beaf it up as I do when the fish are in real nasty stuff go 80 lb braid with a 50 lb floro leader. That is what I have on my big stick.

I have never understood the leader concept unless I am using braid and not getting the bites then I will add a fluoro leader to avoid re-spooling my reel while I'm fishing. Your line will always break at the weakest point which will usually be the weakest strength of line you are using. So like Falconer said, just use 25 lb fluoro all the way. I would suggest Seaguar InvizX. Good luck.

Lots of guys will probably disagree with me but I'll use 15lb Pline CXX in the trees. I've never had a problem. If the water is muddy I'll use braid but for the most part I throw the Pline. I drag that line over rocks in our NM resevoirs and it holds up better than any other line i've used. Had a 7 wrap in a tree on falcon and after trying all the finese ways I pulled and broke the branch.

As far as if it makes sense to use a lower test leader then the mainline (it will break at the weakest point) this is my reason.

Many times when a fish makes a run in tight quarters it's not right near the hook where I run into problems. If I have 20 or 30 feet of line out most of the time I'm getting wrapped-up far from the fish so it is sure nice to have some heavy cable to hold on while I'm trying to unwrap -- if that makes sense.

If all your worried about is the fish snapping line from just its weight and strength, in most cases 20lb anything will do the trick.
