I would like to try drift fishing for catfish as winter rolls in. I have heard many different approaches and set ups. One that makes sense to me is a swivel with a string of barrel weights above the swivel that can crawl over stuff on the bottom. This dragging the leader and bait. Anyone have a link or simple advice on this. Again I have not tried this before.

There are better options than just a Carolina rig with a float on the leader. Do your research, try what you see, let us know what you think.

Remember guys he asked about drifting.

I use a snap swivel with 8 (1/4 oz) weights tied on a string attached to it. Kinda like a shoe string weight without the shoe string. If I am moving between anchoring and drifting I will attach this to TC sinker slide. If I am just drifting all day I will snap the weight's swivel onto the front eye (main line side) of the barrel swivel connecting mainline to leader line. I will use a 1 1/2" or 2" float halfway between the swivel and the hook.

I like to drift with 65lb Tug o War, 90 lb test swivel, 18-24" of 50 or 60 lb of Ande or Big Game or Triple Fish leader, I end with a TC DA hook in either 5/0 or 8/0 depending on BAIT size.

The Santee Cooper rig is great for drift fishing and is all I use.
Hauler, your driscription sounds like a Santee-Cooper rig to me.

Difference is the weight.

I want my weight to be a break away when "dragging" baits. I have the swivel to straighten out or the line (usually 20lb test) holding weights together.
