Just installed hds5 on bow, have hds8 at the console. Have lss1 with both connected with Ethernet cable. The 5 works with sonar, just no temp? Anyone have any ideas?

Sharing Transducers temps.
HDS settings when using Network Sonar
Network sonar enables Multiple HDS units to share a single sonar source, or to change all units in the network from source to source. There are a few settings that need to be changed so that network sonar does not change where the unit is looking for its sonar overlay data (depth/temperature). With network sonar enabled you are only able to display one set of sonar data at a time, if you wish to show the depths and temperatures from different transducers network sonar must be turned off. *Running two transducers at the same time can cause cross talk interference. There are two ways to network HDS units and use Network Sonar: Ethernet only: Allows sonar data to be shared only while network sonar is enabled. When network sonar is enabled on both units you will only be able to use one sonar source (data from one transducer) at a time. Ethernet and NMEA2000: Allows sonar data to be shared via network sonar. Also allows sonar overlay data to be shared via NMEA2000 network when network sonar is disabled. (Can show temp from one unit on another) To enable/disable Network Sonar: Menu>Menu>Sonar>Network sonar. (This dot must be highlighted in both units before network sonar will function. To disable it only has to be turned off on one of the two units.)
Setting the Temp and Depth source: Setting the temp and depth source will allow the unit to display the active sonar data while network sonar is enabled and to display its own data when network sonar is disabled. Menu>Menu>Network>Data sources>Sonar>Water temperature>Menu>Scope>Local Then set the active source as HDS-# Sonar [This Device] This must be performed on at least one of the two HDS in a network; it can be done to both. Follow the same procedure for Depth.
Data Source Selection menu when networked with Ethernet and NMEA2000.
Data Source Selection menu when networked with only Ethernet.

With Network Sonar turned on and the front unit set as active the temp will read, on both units, as whatever transducer temp the front unit is set to. With the back unit set to active the temp will read, on both units, as whatever transducer temp the back unit is set to. The only way, until we get the LSS listed as a separate source, to show the LSS as the source for both units at the same is to not have another transducer temp source in operation. This network sonar setup was done to only allow one transducer to be active, therefore eliminating crosstalk between the units. If you un-network the sonar then you can have both units as active, showing temp and depth from each unit, this can cause cross talk. The unit with the transducer with the temp probe will still show the temp from the probe, the other unit can use the temp from the LSS-1. ***Long story short to display LSS-1 temp on unit 1 and the remote puck temp on unit 2 at the same time on separate units Network Sonar must be turned off. Until we can get the LSS-1 listed as its own source, this has be entered as a fix with engineering, then any transducer with temp will override it.
To display the LSS-1 temp as the temp to unit 1 and the remote puck temp as the temp to unit 2 with network sonar on use the below procedure:
This procedure is to get two units with no NMEA 2000, one transducer with temp, one transducer without temp and one LSS-1 to display the temp with network sonar turned on:
HDS 1:
Menu-Menu-Network-Data sources-Sonar-Water Temperature-HDS-# [This device]-Menu-Scope-Local
HDS 2
Menu-Menu-Network-Data sources-Sonar-Water Temperature-HDS-# [This device]-Menu-Scope-Local

Thanks Jason, so if I don't have a nema network I will have to use both transducers to see temp and sonar on each hds?

yes and no if have them ether net you can share temp from the sonar temp sensor, but if you have ep-80 then yes u will need nema
