I'm getting a 3 wt setup for smaller trout, bass, panfish...found a great TFO rod, just need the reel.

I found Orvis' Battenkill Mid Arbor Fly on sale for $89.00 Reelhttp://www.orvis.com/store/product.aspx?pf_id=72ER&dir_id=758&group_id=768&cat_id=7908

Anyone have this reel? Sounds like a deal to me.

I'd like to spend around $100 on the reel. Anyone have suggestions?

Thanks!

Orvis Battenkill reels are fine reels. I believe it would serve you well.

I have several Orvis Mid Arbors. They are a step up from the standard Battenkills Disc Drags and a fine value. I have a Mid Arbor II I use on a four weight rod and it's light enough to use on the TFO three weight.

I agree that Orvis makes some nice large -mid arbor reels. Do you want an Orvis or would you consider something else?

BTW TFO makes a midge reel which would work fine on a 3wt. maybe you could spend $60.00 on the reel and save the reaminder for a premium line.

I have a couple of these reels and a few spools in the IV for my 6-7-8 wt setups and I like 'em a lot. Some folks might argue that this is overkill for a 3-wt but if you are going to put fish on the reel, I think you're going to like this reel a lot.

That is an excellent price for the mid arbor reel. I have both a standard arbor and also a mid arbor reel and I find that I use the mid arbor on my longer 3 weight rods and the standard arbor on the shorter rods. I have not had a problem with either reel and I sure do like them. Hope you are as happy with yours as I am with mine. You might want to check with Madison River Outfitters to see if they still have those Rio lines on sale for 20 bucks.

Red Truck Fly fishing has the Sage Click on sale for $130.
They are a very light weight large arbor reel.

I have a pflueger medalist for $30 that has served me well for 3wt purposes and has a classic look and feel.

I guess I'm not looking in the right place for that Sage...$130 is a heckuva deal for that reel.

Oops. I just checked and they are sold out. They were clearancing the older black models. The only thing that changed with the newer models was the new gold finish.

Have you looked at Allen reels? I think they are fantastic. The new Alpha series just came out. It is supreme.
