What are you looking for when trolling for crappie in the winter? Flats near creek channels? Flats near steep drop offs? Flats surrounded by flats?

Discuss.

Bait balls. Find the bait, and the crappie will be with them, usually under them. That could be in the flats, on underwater structure, sometimes deeper than other times, etc. If you are just trolling without seeing baitballs in the winter you might as well be going to the Superbowl this year to watch the Cowboys play.

I look for drop offs aka ledges and main lake points. Theese are the main areas the shad hang out so guess what's always close by.

At Lavon this year in Feb
they were 40ft on the bottom and wanted it still.
If you did "troll" you moved very slow.
it was cold.

I look for bait, but I also love me some creek channels on the main lake. I also have brushpiles in 25'-35'.
