I have a claw with chain but when the wind picks up and I am anchored in deep water, I turn into a sail boat.

Normally you need 300% more rope than depth of water. Say for example. 25ft. water depth, 75ft of rope deployed. Also the style of anchor makes a lot of difference and for min. 5ft of 3/8" link chain. On my 28 foot pontoon, I used forward a 15lb anchor 7ft chain. Aft I used 12lb anchor 5 ft chain. I use 15ft of chain and a 16lb anchor for my 26ft offshore boat and it has 600ft of rope in the box. We have anchored successfully in 182ft of water.

chene anchor from bass pro and 3' of chain (it says none needed but I put 3' on mine and it makes it much better) best anchor made.
get the 26'-30' model.

Box anchor....hard to pull but sets better than anything else.

When I had my 24ft toon, it never moved with the box anchor.

Pontoon in high winds? Toss a Volkswagon overboard....  Mike is right...the length of your rope has a lot to do with it. I like 5-7 feet of rope to 1 foot of depth. 10 is better. I think proper "scope" is 7 or so in normal conditions. I would also rather use two smaller anchors than one large one. If you lose that large one...then what do you have?
