The wife and I had to spend the night on the boat last summer due to a break down. We were eaten up with some kind of bug bites. Itches like chiggers but I don't think that is what it was. The bites didn't congregate around clothing lines like chiggers do. This last weekend we were eaten up again fishing during the day. Maybe something hatched out in my boat. Sorry to the dude I sold the boat to this week. Any Idea what we are getting munched by ? Richard.

If it is in the middle of the day I don't think it would be mosquitoes. My guess would be bull gnats.

My wife and I went camping at Cooper Lake last year and something was biting her. She could not feel the bite but these horrible sores came up. She went to the doctor and he said it was mites. Said they live under leaves on the ground and sometimes fall out of trees.
Funny thing though - I never got a single bite. I must not be any good.

Bounce fabric softener sheets are supposed to repel mosquitos; maybe other pests too.

I don't think it was fleas, but it could have been the mites or gnats I guess. Fleas don't usually bite me and I am the last in the crowd to get mesquito bit. Whatever this was ate me as much as it did her. Some of them did make some little sores so maybe it is the mites. We were under some trees. I will try the bounce or lots of bug spray in the future.
Thanks, Richard

Sad to say,But the Buffalo Gnats have arrived at Cedar Creek, they should get thicker for the next month, finally they start to vanish when the "Hot Summer" Day's arrive,These flying insects swarm all in your face,eyes,hair,..Insect Repellant does not work,I have fought these pests at this time of the year for the last 3 years,I Don't smoke but have been told cig smoke will slow these flying Gnats down a bit.Anyone got any ideals to rid these pests?

NoSeeUm's
Skin So Soft from Avon. When I was in the Navy (in Kings Bay, Ga)they had SkinSoSoft in the Ships Store for us to use for the NoSeeUms (a mean biting flying gnat)They even had a NSN number for SquidSoSoft and kept it in stock during the warmer months. We called NOSeeums Teeth with wings. Well Skin So Soft will make you smell like a french Whor# but you won't get gnat bites. It does work! Even Deep Woods off didn't do anything but the SkinSoSoft did. Imagine a ship full of sailors smelling like SkinSoSoft.
I think this where they got the Don't ask Don't tell policy for the gay's in the military! LOL
I feel more like I do now than I did when I first got here!

Thanks Mark,
I have heard of a Avon product good for the NoSeeUm's,but never in my life would i thought i would go "Avon" Shopping!!! We call these things Buffalo Gnats--Reason if you get lucky enough to kill one without destroying it,it's head looks excalty like a Buffalo. I think i would rather smell like a french Whor#,than be completely misarble by these pesky critters........

I don't know how they would work for gnats, but when I was stationed in Montana we used the Coleman mosquito coils scattered around the campsite, and had no trouble at all. Rather than having one or two lighted coils close to us, we made a circle of them around the outside edge of the campsite...about half a dozen or so, as I remember. The coils are shaped like the eye of an electric stove and can be used whole, or broken into smaller pieces. When lit, they smoulder like punk.
