Well I have finally recovered and got caught up from my 4 day float trip down the Devils River. It was both awsome as well as a little humbling. The plan was 4 friends 2 canoes and alot of fun. It turned out that only 3 of us could make it and somehow they stuck the biggest and oldest guy in the kayak. Now this would have been alright if the river was to be calm the entire way. So we set out from bakers crossing, and had 31.4 miles to go. This was a trip I have been waiting for for a long time, I have wanted to make this trip since I was a kid, sad living right here it took till I was 40 to do it. Well, we set out and the scenery was awsome, the water was crystal clear and the smallmouth were abundant and lure dumb. Things could not be better, then i discovered that were many sets of rapids we were going to have to go through and this raised some concern as i have never been through rapids in a kayak before and I am a big guy in a little boat. Well I got a CRASH course on how to navigate rapids and eventually worked through it.I even was able to complete 5 class 2 and 4 class 3's the first time.i also conqured gamewardens rock and 3 tier on the first try The bad part was the video equipment did not, I made it with the camera, and video camera but lost the media cards and batteries so there was not much film. All in all it was a fantastic trip we averaged close to 30 smallmouth a day and could have really caught a lot more, we were also blessed to have caught a 20lb yellow cat the first night of camp and that turned out to be a couple of really great meals for us and some even made it home. it was very beautiful and desolate and it could not have been a greater time spent with friends in the quite and solitude of southwest Texas

Here is a short slide show of some of the pics and scenery I hope you enjoy! just click on the pic to see the slide show

Respectfully,

Jc Gwynne

Awesome pics! Thanks for sharing....I must go do this some day.

The rivers we float here in East Texas look nothing like that...ours are mud and swamps!

That place is amazing. Went there for 3 days in september and wish i could have stayed a week. Smallmouth everywhere once you get 6-8 miles down from bakers. Great trip with 4-6 people.

You did not happen to find my wedding band and shoe in any of those rapids did you? I lost them in a kayak wreck there last summer. Looks like yall had a great trip. That is one of the best places in Texas.
