We have had some really good days on Bastrop but not in an awhile. Contrary to what the LCRA thinks, to me, the lake water level is down. I never thought I would say this but to me there is an over-abundance of grass. Being a die-hard crankbait fisherman, the only way I can fish there is on topwaters. Maybe some of the vegetation will thin out during the winter.

I'll say this...there is a lot more grass there right now than there was this time last year. It was hard to find the edges because there was so much of it

That is exactly right. Last year we were fishing definite patches of grass or grass lines along shorelines that fell off to deeper water. The grass is everywhere now. I believe alot of this has to do with lower water levels. Somehow FCL was REAL high for awhile; Bastrop hasn't been.

I don't know that the grass covers too much more than last year, but the Hydrilla and the Naiad weeds are much much worse. I can fish through the grass but the weeds take a lot of more effort and patience.

I'll be honest here; I don't know what the names of all of the vegetations in the water are. I just know that Bastrop is ate up with a whole bunch right now. I guess if you're a worm fisherman, it must be great. As a crankbait fisherman, it's tough.

No kidding !!!.....if many Bastop are skinny now like that it's time to cull some....this time of the year they all should already be fattening up for winter.

I was waiting for someone to notice that. That was one freaky lookin fish. We actually caught 2 that looked like that. The one in the pic was the worse of the 2. It had a 4 lb head on a 1-2 lb body!
