I will be in Austin next week and thought about renting a kayak and doing some bass fishing since I will have alot of free time during the day. No idea where to go or fish, just always wanted to see the area from the water.Any ideas?

Go to Lady bird Lake which runs right through the middle of the city. Do a google search there are numerous places to rent a kayak along the lake if thats the route you want to take.

It's more than the catfish would do.

+1 on Lady Bird aka Town Lake. You can rent a yak at Zilker park below Barton Springs Pool. If you want a yak rigged out to fish try Austin Canoe and Kayak. Lady Bird has some big bass. You might want to check with the LCRA about their water release schedule but it shouldn't be a problem.

1 vote for Bastrop. 45 minutes east of Austin. I fish both regularly and the catch ratio lately has been 10:1 Bastrop over LBL!! I'll be out sunday morning with a buddy if you want to tag along..Shoot me a pm.

Bastrop's great. If you're trying to stay in town, then you should hit up the Redbud Isle area.

Throw a senko around any laydowns/grass/reeds you can find and you'll get on a few good fish. Enjoy your time here and on the water!!!

TL hasn't been producing lately.......I say drive the extra 45 minutes and go to Bastrop. Or if you want to drive a tad bit further I really recommend Fayette......the fishing has been HOT HOT HOT!!!!

Don't get me wrong....TL has some monster fish in it, but it's hard to find/catch them without putting in your time on the lake first. If you are looking to "catch" as opposed to "fish", then I would say Bastrop or Fayette.
