Gearing up for winter and santa (wifey) is asking for a list.
I know this has been a topic many times but I can't remember the popular pick?

Last year I just had insulated wool socks with jogging shoes. Bad choice since jogging shoes are ventilated and meant to breath. Feet were actually pretty warm as long as it was perfectly still. Any breeze though went straight through.

So this year I'm going to get some decent shoes, I hate cold feet. Do I just want some leather hikers, or what?

Bass pro has a fishing boot. Water proof, non skid sole They are great with a pair of under armor cold gear socks. Keeps you warm and dry!

If it's real cold get you some of those Red Head rubber boots with 1000 grams of thinsulate, they work great!!!

You are on the right track by starting with good socks. i have some nice leather lace up hiking boots that I match with good wool socks with an undersock and my feet stay nice and warm.

I usually fish in a good pair of Rocky wool blend socks and a pair of Cabelas leather upper/rubber lower "duck boots." When it is February cold, I break out the insulated Danners.

Might as well put fishing gloves on your list if you're gonna fish when it is cold enough to taylor the footwear to the weather conditions... cold fingers = miserable

Get boots that are insulated and water proof. Buy 'em a little bigger than your regular size to allow for thick socks. If the boots are too tight they don't insulate as well and impede blood circulation. Avoid cheap brands, they won't last.

get you a good pair of insulated water proof bibs to keep you dry while netting bait

I had an old pair of insulated chest waders that leaked,I cut the boots off and wear them with good thick socks.If I fall in the water,I don't want something tied to my feet.I can slip these boots off and drop them,it might be cold but it is still easier to swim barefooted than to swim with insulated boots tied to you.Just my $.02

I purchased some Redhead insulated boots last night. Just need to get me some insulated bibs and I will be good to go.

Great, thanks for all the responses, might go do some window shopping this weekend with the wifey so I know what fits right and feels comfortable. One question about one post though, what are Danners? Never heard of them. And thanks again guys!!

They are a very nice high quality boot. Kind of like Rockeys but nicer looking.

Not a big fan of Danner's, but heck, I was infantry. I utilize layers of socks more than heavy boots. I did find some light weight Columbia boots that have a down lining that I love. Not good if you are moving around alot or haing to step thru water, but really warm all other times.
