Well I know how you guys are about pictureless reports but my camera is on the fritz and I didn't see anyone else take pics until back at the docks.
Ten of us "paying" fishermen and two " non-paying guests" (don't get me started, that's a whole nuther thread) boarded and headed out on the Pelican Saturday morning. We would stop and try for AJ about three hours out. AJ fishing was slow with only five landed in an hour and a half. I did not get one ....
We headed out for Perdido and arrived at about 5:30 PM and started trolling. Small Yellowfins and Skipjacks were plentiful. We would end up with 9 YFT in the box trolling. They weighed from 15 - 35 lbs. with mine being the biggest.
For the first few hours we picked up only 2 on topwaters in the 50 lb. range an another several small ones chunking. I'm wondering ...what's the deal with all the footballs? At 2 - 3 AM we had 24 YFT in the box and decided to move.
There is a drill ship ....
Noble Danny Adkins ... about 6 - 8 miles away from Perdido so we headed there. At the drill ship there wasn't a lot of action but as we drifted away (back towards Perdido) the action picked up .... and they were bigger.
The deckhands were hooking them on Ballistic Flyers and handing them off. I saw three or four guys tied to 80 - 90 pound fish for 45 minutes or more. Two of them would be lost after long battles.
Big YFT were in the lights rolling and slashing at boat side but wouldn't grab anything but the occasional Frenzy Flyer.
By 4 AM we had 30 YFT in the box and the last 5 or 6 were solid fish. But by this time I had been casting relentlessly for over 8 hours and felt like toast. I wanted no part of a long battle with a big tuna. Getting old sucks!
We ended up with 36 YFT and the last 10 - 12 were all real solid fish with a couple going 100. And a ton of Blackfins. I kept several nice ones in the 16 - 20 lb. range that were all caught on Maguramis.
DSH sister ship ... The Gulf Eagle ... was there and they too got a limit once they left Perdido and headed over to the drill ship about an hour after we did. Both trips were 48 hour trips that were back at the dock in 36 hours ....
My advice if you don't mind......for you guys going out on Nueve
I'm not sure what liberties you have with the boat captains but if it were me I wouldn't even mess with trolling or drifting Perdido for very long if the fish are small. Tell him to head for Noble Danny Adkins and try long drifts.

Take lots of Frenzy Flyers (at least 5 - 6) and stay up late.
Have fun....
