we don't tip guides, his fee goes to him, he is not a hand but the cap, now if your out on a party boat and there is deckhands you tip them, it's not standard buisness to tip the owner, if one does tip the cap he should give it to crew

Guys busts his rear for you, isn't looking at his watch trying to go in, then that's up to you.
Consider the tip a bonus for above average effort.

I usually tip between $50.00 and $100.00 and in the past have always gone with the owners of the buisness.

ya exactlly this is the kind of guide that will keep you out longer if he thinks the day has been below average. i have heard of other guys that are back at the dock by 2 no matter what. i would just assume pay him 20% no matter what because when i go out with him he teaches me so much. above average tip from a poor college kid might get me deals later or on openings that werent open for other ppl

poor college kid going out with a $600 guide twice and tipping him another $200 on top of that ? And you are planning more trips ? Not really what poor college kids do.

Im no salt water guide... but a tip is not required just appreciated. I dont expect one, but Im happy when I get one... it tells me I did a good job! If you learned alot and you think the guide went above and beyond tip what you think is propper.

I would think that you are in the right ball park. If I find a guide I like and plan to use the guide in the future, I want to put at least $100. in his hand at the end of the day and tell him how much I enjoyed the day. I use the same few guides every year, They work thier butt off putting me on fish. If the guide is a jerk ( there are some that are ) and I know right away he is getting none of my repeat buisness, I will thank him at the end of the day and shake his empty hand.

As a saltwater guide, I agree that tips are not necessary, but greatly appreciated. With that being said, $20/man or $100 tips are usually the norm on a full day trip.

I don't usually tip the captain with the thought that he sets the price for his time and his boat but do tip the deck hands. I think the deck hands usually are the guys who work hard for low pay and tips can really help them out.
