I got my first Yamaha (HPDI) with this boat in February and have no complaints at all at the moment - strong and dependable. Steve is the mechanic up at West Boats in Mesquite. They do great work and they are a Yamaha dealer

What type/size motor are you looking at?

I have a 150 HP carbed Yamaha, and it still runs great. Very dependable.

I have always had Merc's until last year when I bought a new boat (Ranger) and it came with a Yamaha, Its the best I have ever owned and I have had a few in my life. Starts first time everytime. I get great gas milage with it, as long as I dont run like a mad man spreadin chit over 40 acres. I have nothing against the other motors, but this one is GREAT.

I have a series 2- 250 - dependable but uses gas a lot more than the regular 250 befor the series 2 came along and more oil, by their design I understand .- very dependable though and have used them for 6 years on different boats just fine

I'm the second owner of my 1996, 85hp Yamaha that hasn't been worked on a single time. Original owner changed spark plugs once and lubed regularly, as have I. Still cranks easily and does everything I ask it to do, very pleased.

I have a two year old Yamaha 115 four stroke. A real gem. Reliable, quiet, and easy to maintain. I'll never go back to two strokes.

My last engine was a Yamaha 250 and I really enjoyed it. +1 on Steve at West Boats. While Butch is a bit cranky (kidding), both are really knowledgable, good guys that do good work. I've been dealing with them for 25 years.

I have a 2009 250 hp VMax series 2. Never had any problems till last month and it has been in the shop twice now for fouling plugs. Did a search online and found this to be a common problem. They better get it fixed soon or this will be my last Yamaha.
