I met a couple fellows little over a year ago and they had just come from the Brazos on I-10 between Brookshire and Sealy, and they flat put the hurt on catfish. They had a 2 day limit of flatheads, channels and blues along with a few gaspergou. They were running trotlines only from the I-10 bridge both ways in the river up and downstream.

They hit it right after a little rainstorm. I know the flatheads love to move and feed on thunderstormy nights, and I always make sure I have perch or bullheads baited when ones predicted.

Keep in touch!

I'm soaking 52 hooks tonight at Somerville. 1/2 Live perch 1/2 cut buffalo chunks. A 25 hook trotline and 9 "3 hook" jug lines. I'll post results tomorrow. Wish me luck!

Well, it wasn't exactly what I was hoping for, but we got a 10lb and a 5lb blue, and a few nice channels.

good catch for that lake. I have got a few big ones but not many and low numbers for the effort I have put in. I think the R/R fishing is better targeting the small ones for that lake. I just wish we could trotline Gibbons creek! Better yet I wish they'd build another lake on the Navasota River just outside town here. About 15K acres and leave all the trees!!!!!!!!!!!! Dream on....Hooker.......dream on!!!!!!!!!!!!!!1

That'll sure make the grease stink!! I'll take that any day along with a flathead here and there.

Good catch!

Spent last night going through my 35 two and three hook throw lines making sure hooks were good and sharp. THen rolled them up so they'll be easy to fish. I have 5 new 5 hook lines made for those good holes. I also placed an order for 300 large perch. Got plans to get some mudcats too!
Now all I have to do is wait for my trip to the Trinity river Memorial weekend....I'm ready!
I want to extend the invitation to any of you guys out there that would like to bring your rigs and join us that weekend. We'll be camped a few miles from Madisonville on at a place called Coleman's. It should be fun.

i put out a trotline on april 22, in hubbard creek lake ... 8-12 ft of water, across a small draw about 150 yards from the main creek channel... 40 hooks 10-12 ft apart ... been baitin' with buffalo meat & soured chicken gizzards ... my pa-in-law has run it for me several times so i lost count on the amount of fish ... we had a fish fry at his house for mothers day ... most all blues & 2 or 3 channels ... baited today with 24 live baits ... 4 of them in the 8-10 inch size ... we'll see tomorrow

Scooter...I don't have a boat and have tried a few places on the Navasota and Brazos Rivers banks fishing with r&r, but haven't had any luck. Can you recommend a good bank fishing place around here? Thanks.

I really can't. Sorry though.
I am very limited on my R/R skills for catfish to tell the truth. I know that sounds funny but its true. I fish for whites, crappie, sometimes BB....I go tot he coast and chunk lures for hours every summer and fall but I rarely fish RR for cats. I plan to change that but for now thats the ticket. I trotline and throwline for cats. As a matter of fact I just finished loading my boat and truck. My buddy from Austin will be here in the morning and we're off to the Trinity river near Madisonville to give'em hell.
I know that good fish can be had out of both rivers on RR because one of my patients/friends fishes alot and does OK. In fact he caught a 21 lb yella from the Navasot on Sunday. He uses frozen shad, perch and sometimes a wad of earth worms. In fact he swears that he cathces yellas on earthworms sometimes.
If I were to direct you it would be to out of the way places and not bridges. Email me next week.... scott.gilleland@davita.com

Chris, you said
"I haven't tried Fayette County Lake (the Pond) yet, but no trotlines or juglines in there anyway...only rod/reel."

I am not sure what you mean by "(the Pond)"...but Fayette county lake is legal for jug lines, just not for trot lines. I even called the TPWD to verify by phone, to be sure I read the regulation booklet correctly.

I set juglines one time in Fayette, drifting jugs, with 30 foot lines, they drifted across 60 foot water and got caught in tree tops...what a lake for deep structure...

You are correct on Fayette County Lake. Juglines are legal, trotlines are not. I guess they just don't want people leaving old trotlines in the lake or having bass fishermen hanging up on them.

Well we made the trip to the Trinity River above lake Livingston. It seems that they have the dam repaired and are stopping the water in the river. The river was very clear and had very little to no flow. We ended up with four groups fishing about 75 hooks each. Me and my fishing buddy ended up with a 25 lb op, a 17 lb blue and about 8 blues bt. 2-6 lbs. The other groups did about the same. One group had a27lb op and three blues around 23lbs but they fished really hard, running their lines all night both Friday and Sat nights.
With the lack of flow the O2 on the bottom became low and we began to have baits die on the hook. Nothing touched the 30 mudcats we fished. Most died on the hook.
Next year we'll do the trip earlier in the year and I think it'll just get better. Nice trip and place we stayed considering.

Obiewan - the POND is what most folks around Fayette County lake call it or nickednamed the water body. Yea I knew about the regs. on Fayette, but way too much trouble with snags and bass fishing folks taking them or cutting them up.
