I knew it was going to be for sure rough when we cleared the Highport No Wake buoy with me sitting with my back to the bow rigging rods in the dark with lures...and got good'n wet with spray over the bow at 7'ish.
Technically we DID NOT get skunked 'cause PV did catch ONE Sand Bass on the sandy bank west of the Willis Bridge ...but other wise drew blanks on the TW's & slabs from Rock Creek & the north bank, everywhere in between... and back to the lee shelter of the Islands until noon'ish...and called it a day. OH Well thats why it's called fishing and not catching I guess. Ron

Rough? The wind was only blowing 10-15 mph out there yesterday with 3 ft. swells, thats pretty calm for Texoma I was out there and there was a little chop but nothing compaired to what Duckcreek Davy was fishing in Monday with 30 mph wind, that will sink a boat on Texoma. I like using lures too but you've got to have bait also. Fishing was good on bait yesterday. Good Luck, Brian

My days of fishing in +3 footers in 2 second intervals are pretty much over .... unless I get caught doing something stupid like I did more frequently in those days in the late '90's when I ran a '84 model 22' Pursuit Long Range up here.
One of the worst trips for weather and my stupidity was getting caught across the river from the end of the peninsula on the monkey's fist of my 300' anchor rode in 40' of water....taking 1-2' tall green water over my 3' tall bow with my pulpit going completely under...'cause we was catching FISH on live bait every time we hit the spool release ... we limited both of us in about 20 minutes and caught mebbe 30-40 overs plus who knows how many unders until the bait ran out in the 2 hours we sat on the ledge ... finally got the message to leave about the time both bilge pumps kicked on at the same time as the wind out of Little Mineral continuued to grow.
THAT boat came from Corpus and was setup for 50 miles+ offshore use... my Key West 216 BayReef, the current boat is not...but it is safe enough for anything I've experienced in anything I've driven so far on Texoma, unless the driver is too dumb for his own good...and the reason for my tag line.
IF WE HAD BEEN ON FISH THURSDAY ... mebbe that mighta made a different story in my post too...but I am not sure my surgically rebuilt net throwing shoulder can do that anymore even 4 years after the surgery & 2 years after the completion of the rehab program...but your are right ... as always Live Bait is still gonna be trumping lures. Mebbe next year I'll try the net again. Ron
