I use shrimp on juglines, I don't think it matters that much just peel the shrimp before you put them on hook.

Shrimp is good bait but kinda pricey. Cutbait works good and Beef kidney or heart and Pork liver if u can find it.

I purchase shrimp from grocery stores when it is on sale, peel, salt and "season" it to taste then put it in bag and toss in freezer. Salt will make the shrimp "tuff" will stay on hook better and "seasoning" will call the fish. I have had better luck using shrimp while drift fishing than on jugs, bait of choice for jugs is fresh shad, but shad scent in shrimp works great.

ifyou guys think frozen shrimp coststoo much you would die if you knew what yellow cat fishermen spend on bait. Rather its buying bait or the gas to track it down. Plus the equipment needed to transport and keep the live perch going. I know several guys who went to the expense of digging ponds just to raise bait. Now there's some expense!!!! I think HEB is running medium shrimp for about 3.99 a lb. Use the white ones because they're cheaper. If shrimp work for you, feel fortunate!

You can buy bait shrimp in the Groc. store also. It is in the frozen food section.

I would not buy good eating shrimp to fish with.

P.S. Soak your shrimp in vanilla!! A little tip I learned from Donnie P.

Ironically wally world sells eating shrimp for the same price as you will find the bait shrimp.

Often if I am using shrimp I will get the little bag of 300 "salad" shrimp and fish for panfish and small catfish. This is about 10 times cheaper than nightcrawlers and sometimes more effective. The creeks north of LL are filled with small shrimp so I figure I am not too far off of the mark.

I have done really well with shrimp in the warmer months drifting up in shallower water. Had a guide show me this once. Only thing is we seem to catch a lot more channels this way.

We use the big eating shrimp from the grocery store and buy it fresh the day we fish. That is the only way to go. This will outfish any frozen or bait shrimp out there.

It catches catfish! That is what it does. wink

It is hard for me to use shrimp as bait though. I agree with soaking them in cocktail sauce. laugh

The best shrimp I have found is farm raised in Imperial, It even catches yellows, stripers, & largemouths. We eat the leftover bait. Win Win situation.

I think the fresh shrimp is much better bait than the boxed frozen stuff. And the small to medium sized shrimp is close to the same price as that boxed fishing shrimp. The boxed fishing shrimp sometimes smells rotten. I've caught channel cats while drifting shrimp but never had any luck catching blues on shrimp. Shad is the number one bait for both channels and blues.
