today, me and my family went up to buda to check out the new cabelas and it was awsome. i wore a bass pro shop shirt and got some weird looks from people that work there. the aquarium was peddy cool. there are some huge cats in it, one huge bass, a giant striper, and a lot of other fish. it was cool watching the cats just lay up under the tree and the bass just swimming around. it is a huge store. the gun library is awsome and i like how people can just pick up a gun and look at it without the people behind the desk having to hand it to them. the big rock wall with all the stuffed animals on it is really cool. we didnt look at everything but i had fun. i got out of there with all my money in my pocket. real nice place to go and just waist time.

Went a week ago when they opened. All the staff I talked with were knowledgeable and eager to help. Yesterdays Austin paper had a HUGE section for the GRAND opening this weekend. I will have to go back as there are some real buys. laugh

Went yesterday and was there when two guys brought in a 13.8 lb lm bass they had caught in Lake Austin at 10 pm the night before. Sweet lookin' fish. Now they can come and visit anytime they want. The 15 lber in there checked it out a little bit and then went back to it's home and suspended.

If people focused on important issues, there would be a shortage of fishing poles.

Me and the wife visited the new store in Ft Worth yesterday for the second time thinking it would be less crowded than when it first opened a couple of weeks again. Boy were we WRONG!. While we were walking around I noticed a guy drinking a Micholob Ultra in the bottle in the store. At first I thought I read the label wrong and maybe it was some type of root beear in the bottle until he changed hands and I could read the label. About that time a staff member was walking by and told the gentlemen that he could not drink beer in the store and he came back with a response that " Isnt this Texas ". The staff member seemed a little shocked and replied with a " Yes, but you can not drink alcoholic bevereges in the store". At this point they were walking the other direction and I couldnt hear the rest of the conversation but from what I got out of it, it seemed as if he really thout you could just walk around anywhere in Texas and drink beer or whatever and nobody gave a S***, and this is what you do in TEXAS. If that is the case, do people think Texas is the same way it was back in old days ?

The reason the store was crowded in Ft. Worth was because this weekend was the official grand opening of the store. Vendors and such were there. Only reason I know is because family owns American Hunter and they had to be out there helping customers with the blinds and feeders.

Catfishd, They must have been in the big tent outside the store. I did not see any vendors inside like Bass pro has at their fishing classic sale?

So, if I head out to the Canyon Lake Dam tailrace to give the trout a small morning wade, would it be worth it to spend the afternoon going to the one in Buda?

I've never been to Cabela's store. I love their huge catalog though. Their fly-fishing catalog is incredible.

By the way... where IS Buda? And how do you pronounce it? Every time I say "Buda" I get a mental picture of the big half-naked jolly Asian guy.

The town and the store are about 10-15 miles south of Austin on I-35. The store is on the west side. There's a huge water tower w/Cabela's written on it right by the store. You won't miss it.

To pronounce it correctly, the u should be the long sound like in fuel or mule.

I went to the Ft. Worth sotre on the 6th. Not crowded aqt all, and IMHO, blows BPS out of the water. They gave tokens for the shooting gallery to the kids, and even has a grille upstairs in case you get hungry. Plus they carry things that I can not find at BPS.

Have you tried the grill upstairs (Ft Worth). It was edible but too expensive (over $7 for a burger and fries)and too commercial.
I felt like it was half way between the food at the mall food court and Six Flags. Expensive pre cooked and commercial. Just give me a Whataburger or some other fast food. (half price and better food)!

I feel more like I do now than I did when I first got here!

It wasn't cheap, but there is not much else around that area yet. The kids enjoyed it.

Buda = Byooda
Watch out for that guy cooking burgers,,,,I was there last night and noticed he was using the same spatula for the raw meat AND the cooked burgers!
He would also grab a raw patty out of the freezer with his plastic gloved hands, throw it on the grill and then he would grab a bun with those same cross contaminated gloves and make your hamburger!
I feel sick!
Nice store though.
Go back in the Bargain Cave and check out their used hunting boots. Got a $100 pair of Red Wings for $32. They had been returned for some reason. There were a ton of different kinds of shoes/boots, slightly to well used,,,,cheap!
