I have been reading a lot about the side imaging. I am looking to buy one of the 9 series of hummingbird. Can anyone tell me if I have one of these and I am cruising the humps at Tawok or any lake, will it see the fish or is it only for finding structure?

Yep, there are some pretty cool fish pics on some reports. Do a search for side imaging and fish pics. Fish look kinda like rice on the screen, but it shows them really well.

Love mine. I use the downscan more than the side imaging. The only problem I've had is gawking at the finder when I should have been fishing. It's easy the learn and well worth the bucks.

Below is a (blurry)shot from a Humminbird 998, this view is looking out 180 feet on both sides. The school of sandbass is laid out across bottom on left side. But here is what I've learned - yes you can see a lot more fish you wouldn't have seen- but seeing them won't make them bite. I do catch more fish with this thing but still think it must be that sometimes they are turned on and sometimes simply not. It makes me wonder as I go from school to school looking for the hot bite: did I find a hot school or did they all turn on at that time and these fish I'm catching are just the ones I'm near? Dont' know, but I've put more fish in the box since having a better under water view. Plus its just fun to drive around and look at everything.

Maybe my 798 works fine. Cuz I can't see a fish on that first pic either. LOL
Where is it at?
The down imaging on your lowrance seems so much better than mine.

Why do sidescan immages make me go cross eyed and get a headache? Anyone else encounter this effect?

Why do sidescan immages make me go cross eyed and get a headache? Anyone else encounter this effect? It takes quite a bit of time to learn how to read the images. Once you do it makes a lot more sense. Biggest advantage of time on the water with the unit is interpreting the images faster as they go by.
