I have seen blue catfish that were almost solid white. I am not sure what makes this but it was more than likely a blue.

I used to raise catfish and it is not uncommon to have an Albino catfish in a group, but it is more common to have amutation in catfish where you might have a white or almost white fish with dark eyes. Often they do not make it to 3# because they are so visible to predators. However, they can. Jackieblue caught a white fish out of Richland Chambers, put it on display in an aquarium at the lake. The longer it was in the aquarium the darker it got. They are fun to see in the wild, kind of like seeing a Bald Eagle, not sumpin you see everyday.

One other thing that will cause you to have white kitties, or bass for that matter is fish being raised in heavy stained water. Many times the blues out here in the Red River will be almost snow white, but as Obie mentions, they have regular eyes, so they aren't albinos.

I saw an old boy years ago win a LMB tournament, and knew darn well he didn't catch that winning fish in the lake we were suppose to be fishing. You see, he showed up at weigh in with a dark green colorful LMB.....I turned to some of the other guys who had been fishing the lake we were supposed to be restricted to fishing and ask if any of them had ever seen an LMB this colorful come out of this red stained lake, and we all knew better. The LMB's in this lake were almost snow white....Just barely could make out a reddish colored shadow of a lateral line on most of them. wink

Hey Mike,
I fished a little city park here in the Woodlands today. It was really muddy, and I was told by a guy that lives in the aprtments by the park that the water is always muddied like that.

I caught 3 largemouths. I swear I thought the first one was a white bas when it was fighting. There were almost no markings on the things at all. NO GREEN anywhere and just a very slight hint of grey.

The bass out of Lake Eufaula in Oklahoma always have that light color. Lot's of iron in the water cause the huge lake to look muddy year round. It really is a shame too cause it makes folks stay off it in droves. You could spend an hour driving over the lake in the summer and maybe see 3 or 4 boats on the entire lake (as well as it's over 600 miles of shoreline).

Now on that lake the state stocks what they call "Mississippi Whites". I have seen much debate as to whether this is an actual different species - hybrid - sub-species or whatever. Looks like a blue to me and gets big just like em. Any of you guys familiar with them?

I have caught and seen albinos, channel catfish and blues and the eyes are pink. I would say if the rest are a normal color. You have an albino channel cat most likely.

Theres only two kinds. Good ole big'ems. And big ole good ems.

I caught a mess of blue catfish at Lake Eufaula in Oklahoma right were the Canadian river connects, we caught some that were very dark and others that were almost white. the difference was supposed to be that some were coming from the lake and some from the river. They all tasted great. Yours sounds like an albino, it happens.

I WAS OUT AT THE POND ALL WEEKEND AND THIS WHITE CATFISH SEEMS TO BE SMARTER OR WHATEVER THAN THE REST, IF THATS POSSIBLE? WHEN I FEED, ALL OF THE CHANNEL CATS WILL ALMOST JUMP ON LAND TO GET THE FOOD PELLETS OFF OF THE BANK, BUT HE JUST SWIMS AROUND AND WAITS FOR THE PELLETS TO MAKE IT OUT FURTHER IN THE LAKE AND THEN EATS. MY POND IS VERY CLEAR RIGHT NOW SO WHEN I FEED YOU CAN SEE EVERY FISH AND HOW BIG THEY ARE. THE WATER IS ABOUT 2 FOOT DEEP WHERE I FEED. HES A VERY CAUTIOUS FISH, ITS LIKE HE KNOWS HES DIFFERENT SOME HOW. AND WHEN I SAY WHITE I MEAN WHITE, ITS LIKE SOMEBODY DUMPED A CAN OF WHITE PAINT ON HIM. EVEN HIS WHISKERS ARE WHITE. WHEN I FEED I CAN PUT A PELLET ON A HOOK AND SIT THERE AND CATCH 2 AND 3 POUNDERS ALL DAY, BUT WHEN I TRY IT WITH THE WHITE ONE HE SEE'S THE HOOK OR SOMETHING AND JUST SWIMS AWAY. I WANT TO CATCH HIM AND TAKE A PICTURE AND RELEASE HIM. I WANT TO POST IT ON THE SITE. IVE BEEN THINKING THAT I CAN FEED THEM AND GET A THROW NET WHILE THERE EATING AND TRY AND CATCH HIM THAT WAY.

Actually, I remembered that the cats I spoke of in Eufaula were called "Mississippi humpback whites".

I've accidentally caught a few catfish in a cast net before and the spiny fins get caught and tangled very easily. I had to cut off some of the fins just to get them out. Be cautious with the net; just my $0.02. Maybe you could try a large dip net...
